Bose Companion 3

Hi,

I have been looking to buy some new speakers and landed my eyes on the Bose Companion 3.

It would probably be idiotic to run such nice speakers of of the onboard sound of my Mb, so I am in the market for a soundcard.

I have been looking around for soundcards but I am a bit confused about all of the output's of said cards.

The Bose speakers connect by a 3.5 mm jack into the sub from which the sound is transfered to the satellites by red and white RCA plugs.

I have seen some soundcards with RCA connectors but that would mean I have to bypass the sub with the satellites and plug them straight into the soundcard, which would leave me with a sub that has to be separately connected via 3.5mm plug.

There are also soundcards with five or seven 3.5 mm connectors, if I just plugged the 3.5mm into one of the 5 or 7 outputs would this mean that it only receives sound that is meant for a right speaker for example ?

The soundcard will be primarily used for music, I also plan to do some gaming on it.

Basically I am a bit lost here, so if anyone could guide me through this it will be much appreciated !

NO BOSE. you can get better for cheaper. Get the Klipsch pro media they are only $150 as apposed to $200. I have both the Companion 3 and the pro media, they both sound VERY nice almost equal in terms of highs (bose gets a little better highs) but the mids and lows the pro media DESTROYS the companion 3. the SUB on the companion 3 is crap and the speakers are to tiny to create any nice mids.

BOSE=Buy Other Sound Equipment

as for sound card i would go with any of the ASUS xonar.

I can't actually get the promedia 2.1 in my country.

That speaker set connects via a 3.5 mm plug right ?

What port would I plug it into if I was using a Xonar card ?

The headphone port or something ?

i would say dont get Bose, i have got Companion 5 and even though they do sounds good, but looking back feel i could have got something much better for much cheaper as KoS said. i think i was in in classic "its expensive so it must be good"

If you can get some of the Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 they're amazing. I know you're looking at 5.1 setups but these 2.1s are sinply amazing.

I have them for music, films and gaming (pc - directly into onboard and ps3 - RCA cable) and the sound quality is stunning. Bass is amazing, mid tones are phonominal. The woofer is pretty big and the satellites are quite small for desk uses. Definitely recommend 'em buddy

i had the II ones, and they were immensely good

they're not perfect, but reviewers pick out the small faults and make them seem huge...

they're brilliant speakers

Actually I'm only looking at 2.1 sets !

I will take a look at those speakers and read some reviews.

They're great speakers. Can't really fault them. They're really durable (been through several house parties and such where they've had a few bashes) and work great till this day. I even got my house mate to buy them.

I got bose companion 3 and im happy after using it for 1 year. It wont let you down, but cant say its the most best as better keep coming. But still the sound is just great. BTW you dont need a soundcard for this, your usual on-board would be enough as the accoustimass module has a signal processor built it that filters the sound like a sound card.

I found the bose speakers would sound great on regular on-board but would not sound that great when connected to sound blaster xi-fi usb ... So it just needs normal audio and the signal processor will make it excellent audio.

If i had to rate these speakers, I'd say 4.5/5 stars.
