Better Router = Speed download over Ethernet ?

You never will fella, I have a 38Mbps speed and my active download speed either with Steam or download client is roughly around the 4.8MB/s
Looks like you are getting what you paid for I'm afraid.
When you say you never see that speed when downloading? what or where are you downloading? If you mean torrents, well this can vary depending on the sources/peering

I think you are still hung up on the Megabyte vs. Megabit thing. Steam displays the download speed in Megabytes per second. The speedtest is in Megabit per second. So your download speed in steam should be about 9 Megabyte per second on.
You can change the display in steam to Megabit per second. That is as others have stated higher by factor eight. 1 Byte = 8 Bits.
You could compare it to foot and centimeters. It's just confusing because the names sound so similar.

74.3 Mb/s throughput at maximum perfect line condition with no overhead would equal around 9.3 MB/s download.
Now because FTTC runs the last few hundred meters over copper, there is an overhead of around 10% that will be used through signal noise. So you should be downloading at around 8.35 MB/s.
Long and short of it is, if your downloads are around the 8 MB/s speed, you are getting exactly what would be expected on your line.

Long story short, you are downloading at quite a healthy speed, more than what some people can dream of
All I can suggest is next time you get slow download speeds, let it run and grab a coffee
who knows maybe someone else in your family is leeching your internet and watching Pron

Super simple version :
The ''74'' you got on speed test and the ''8'' you see when you download things are the same speed. Like someone driving at 60 miles per hour and another at 100 kilometers per hour are at actually travelling at the same speed.

Feel bad for this guy.. Like I know what everyone is talking about, but with all this information and so many MB/Mb/Mbps stuff flying around all at once even I got confused lol
So OP... You are getting the speed you are paying for. You are good to go. So to answer the router question, no a router upgrade will NOT benefit you.
