Beginners benchmarking

For those newcomers to our team here's a quick how to.

To begin, visit HWBOT's benchmark listing page here

http://www.hwbot.org/benchmarks

This page lists all the benchmarks that HWBOT list scores for.

You will also find on this page links that enable you to download each benchmark.

You can submit results for any benchmark on this list but there are benchmarks you get points for and benchmarks you don’t and I have separated the no score benches

You can earn personal points and team points

There are two types of team points
Global Team Power Points (GTPP)
Hardware Team Power Points (HTPP)

There are three types of personal points
World record points (WRP)
Global points (GP)
Hardware points (HP)
(NP) = No points

Here is a list of the benchmarks

A couple of quick notes

In order to submit a benchmark result, there are a few requirements you need to consider.

The rules for each benchmark are linked, I suggest at least having a quick look through these.

When running the benchmarks, don't have any other screens open. Open CPU-z and GPU-z after the score has been generated.

PiFast

Hexus PiFast, when downloaded from HWBOT, contains a file called hexus_pifast.bat. This is a batch file which, when executed, runs a preset benchmark. Make a shortcut to this file on your desktop and execute from there. This will open a command prompt window and the preset benchmark will run.

SuperPi.

The SuperPi used is a version customised by XtremeSystems.org and is actually called SuperPi mod 1.5. This seems to tax my CPU overclocks a bit more than the original.

There are two benchmarks to run here. 1m and 32m

wPrime. HWBOT uses an older version of this tool, v1.55. A newer v2 is available which I used when I first started doing this, had to re-do all my submissions with the older version and then re-submit them, what a pita that was.

Again there are two benchmarks to run here. 32m and 1024m

nVidia PhysX

When benching nVidia cards in 3DMark Vantage, 3DMark 11 and 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme either PhysX or PPU needs to be turned off
This thread on the hwbot forum explains
http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=26427&highlight=3dmark+vantage
it’s less hassle if you just turn PhysX off
I’m not 100% on this, but the only benchmark that really benefits from physics is 3DMark Vantage
I get something like 4,000 extra points in SLI with physics on. The debate over this has been done to death on forums, see it as you like, HWBOT doesn’t allow the use of physics.

Don’t change any of the options in the 3D benchmarks, just run the preset benchmarks.

Aquamark

hwbot now have a custom implementation of this bencmark so download it from their site and install

Unigine Heaven – Xtreme preset is a HWBOT customised implementation of the Unigine benchmark.

“The HWBOT Unigine Heaven Benchmark application consists of the Unigine Heaven benchmark, developed by Unigine Corp., and a wrapper software tool developed by HWBOT. The benchmark comes in two shapes: a DirectX9 (Basic) preset, allowing people to test and compare low-end and mainstream setups, and a high-end DirectX11 (Xtreme) preset to test and compare the latest graphics cards. Next to the two presets, the wrapper software allows users to submit scores directly to the HWBOT database or, in case the test system has no internet connection, the possibility to save your result.”

Something I noticed when using this in an SLI setup, the drop down at the bottom of GPU-z is to be used as part of the screenshot. The thing is, when you click on the drop down it shows 2 cards but when you then click on “take screenshot”, the drop down disappears. The screenshot submitted doesn’t show the drop down with both cards. My workaround for this is after clicking “take screenshot”, I re-click the GPU-z drop down and press “print screen” on my keyboard to take another screenshot before clicking the “save result” button.

Submitting.

HWBOT makes it as easy as possible for you to submit scores. If your submitting multiple scores for the same hardware, you have an option at the top of the submission screen to select previous submission settings, saving you from having to re-type in all your hardware details for every bench.

Screenshots. A screenshot for the CPU benchmarks should contain 2 CPU-z screens, 1 showing the CPU tab and the other showing the memory tab. it should also contain the benchmark screen showing the final calculation time like this

superpi32.jpg

For the GPU tests a screenshot should include a GPU-Z screen as well, like this.

pcmark05.jpg

CPU-Z can be downloaded from CPUID website here. http://www.cpuid.com/

GPU-Z can be downloaded from Techpowerup here. http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/

When it comes time to submit your results, if you haven't registered on HWBOT before then you can register thru their home page. http://www.hwbot.org/
At the top of the page you have the options to either login or register
if you choose to register it takes you this page

hwbotreg.jpg

Once you have chosen a user name and entered your details click the drop down selection box to choose your team, Overclock3d Bench Team

As for optimising your OS for the benchmarks, we'll work on it. There are some threads in the Software and OS section of this forum that cover this subject, get looking.

This guide is going to be a work in progress and anyone is invited to help with their input

Happy Benching.

to try and save any confusion over which bench version you need to use here are some links to the current versions you need. these are only for the point scoring tests, others can be ran too but lets work on these first
smile.gif

they are direct download links where i can but some you need to pick the best server for you.

CPU (2d)

cpuz you need this for all submission screenshots

super pi

wprime

pifast

pcmark 05

GPU (3d)

vantage you will need a key for this

01 se

03

05

06

aquamark3

unigine heaven dx11 only for points

gpuz you need this for 3d submissions too

great thread mate, I was thinking about doing one of these next week when I could get on a real net connection so I could host some pics about submitting scores and selecting your hardware from previous submissions and that too to show how easy that is.

only other thing I can think of is to only use the benchmarks from hwbot and not the latest versions as they need to be the.same versions for the scores to be comparable.

Sorted.

I think.

rolleyes.gif
hopes to find out if he got them all right some time in the next 24hours (busy downloading all now) , I might not pull many points in atm, but as I know from folding - every little helps.

chudley you will be surprised mate, you might not get much from your first run but once you find out how each test runs best you will soon be shaving bits off the cpu tests and bumping those 3d test scores up and then the boints start to flow
smile.gif

Ta very much chaps
smile.gif
just kind of figured my first one out which is not much at all
smile.gif
0.1 points. I had to stop my folding for it as well
sad.gif
but I do have a bit of a feeling deep inside me waking now and I know this will mean better scores for both the bench and folding teams in the future, Damm you OC3D another obsession thanks to you...there is NO WAY i can remain at 0.1 points.

On a side note what is the usual Super Pi test value to run? I ran a 1m after realisng the 16k was a bit silly.

ah that makes sense cos I just ran a 2m and got this
smile.gif
SuperPi Core i5 750 ranking: not your best Core i5 750 submission for this ranking. luckily I had not attempted to change any settings was still playing around with teh "submits".

Juat knocked up a bit of a guide as I figured it would help those that have never submitted results before- I know it is a small thing but a similar guide on the F@H for team Redline@OC3D has probably saved quite a few questions and made things alot smoother. Hopefully I will be able to do more guides for other benches in the future
smile.gif
and with improving scores

A quick question guys, I have shaved my Super Pi times down a little each time and have another ready for submission 10.7 secs, but is it worth it? I already have 0.1 points and unless I get it down to less than 3 secs (just not gonna happen on my rig yet) I do not think i will receive any extra points, am I correct in assuming this?

Naturally I will still keep on pushing on a stable overclock and once I am happy with that look at other options
smile.gif

I am sat stable on 4Ghz atm however the weather has upped my temps a little so I need to be careful.

Cheers

I usually submit any record of mine, regardless if it yields points, just to compare my own scores.

And it gets you along the achievements somewhat faster

With the revision to HWBOT and the new scoring system I felt I had to update this posting

If anyone has any problems with the links, please let me know

Hey, I am going to be getting my old rig back very soon.

It consists of:

XFX nForce 790i

X3220

4GB Geil Black Dragon 1600Mhz

GTX 460

OCZ 550W

Going to be pushing this to its max and see what how high I can get before I fry it.

Should be interesting to see what it can do.
