Audio Play Back Stutter

Hi,

My audio has recently stated to stutter. Kind of like a cd skipping.

Physical memory in task manager is ram right? Well there is enough there for it to not be the computer being loaded.

I dont know what else it could be...

Hard drive?

Where are you playing the Audio from? MP3/CD/Net?

It might be worth trying a different media player regardless to see if that makes a difference, or set up the Windows performance monitor to display disk/memory/cpu performance. See if anythign is wrong there.

hmm, not to sure on how to set it up. well I can set it up I just dont know what to look at. And what is meant to look normal.

I am now thinking that its the HDD. It has been making a lot of noise when searching ans opening.

Any recommendations.

Its 500gb.

I used to get that kinda problem with Windows media player with any kind of operation going on from installation to opening a program

Winamp removed this problem (and sounds better, looks better, more functions etc. lol)

Also I have tried WMP again since getting my raptor x raid0 running

No stuttering

So perhaps try winamp or look at say...samsung F1?

Audio device?

Try unisntall/reinstall or newer drivers or a totally different device?

is something using all cpu/ram or saturating hard drive? some anti viruses can be quite aggressive

just uninstalled the device in devmgmt.msc and then installed it.

But its still there.

Sound drives arent available in safe mode are they? I dont think so.....

Looking at the preformance monitor when it stutters page/sec drops.

I will look at what that displays, if someone doesnt see this and posts.

Now it doesnt look as though its that. BIG stutter and nothing was out of place/trend

Got a spare soundcard or another machine to test the soundcard in?

How about...booting linux live cd (ubuntu 9.04) - it should install ur device

test it there

if its fine, id say try reinstalling windows

I am not sure about another machine:

The sound card uses the tiny pci slot above the northbridge (?)

I have virtual box installed so would that work?

No idea mate, but ud still have to download ubuntu anyway so u may as well try live booting it

SHOULD detect the sound card

I installed Ubuntu and installed it in a virtual environment.

The skipping was still there.

Am I now right in thinking that this is not a driver issue? As windows and linux would use different drivers?

indeed mate

next step id say is try a spare hdd.

then after that soundcard device - u can get them pretty cheap anyway
