At what point does fps become unacceptable?

Just wondering what you feel is minimum fps when gaming, there have been couple of threads where fps has come up with some low (IMO) numbers being mentioned. If I'm hitting minimum fps much below fps I drop the setting down a touch, I like to average 60+ - I don't see how some people play at 25fps or around there.

60+ is good for me as an average - although sub 30fps as a min is also irritating.

But I remember playing Jedi Knight on my old rig with a 4MB S3 Virge graphics card and that was running around the 15fps range, but in comparison (back in the day) looked so gorgeous I would not have played it without the 3d acceleration the card provided.

Depends on the game, as some engines run more smoothly than others. Generely though, less than about 35/40 and you start missing shots you would normally get with hitscan/non 'spray' weapons.

Depends on the game engine as wildc4rd said, and also the type of game, i wouldnt want less than 60fps really for pull AWP shots in CS, but NFS can look great with on 30fps.

I play SWG @ around 15-30FPS all the time and it still looks LOVELY!! Im not taken with ATI cards tho, the X600 is putting me off them, just doesnt look as nice as nVidia cards.

i find around 25+ fps is fine, so long as its only 25fps during heavy gunfire/smoke etc...

i only run at 1280x1024, so its not too tough to reach that :p

can play down to 25FPS, anything under that, i usually quit the game if it lasts longer than a minute, gets me frustrated! :p

Ive only had 60 fps in FS2004 before, with reasonably good detail settings

i think it depend son your game too though as iv just bought need for speed most wanted and that at 1280x 1024 at full everything only plays at just above 50, most fps on that are like 50 - 60 where as bf2 at every thing at full at same resolution most of teh time its like 70- 100

I think its fair to say the real answer is when the game actually starts to look slow, then you know your FPS is too low - dont matter about the rate - just when it looks/feels slow.
