ASUS tease R9 290x DirectCu II card

Nvidia have obviously thought it was a good idea as well, I'm not sure when this whole shaboozy will die out. I agree though, I'd rather pay less for the 'cards then spend more and get games I'd probably never even play. I've only just finished all of the games that came with my old 7870 (nexuiz,Dirt Showdown, Shogun 2 and sleeping dogs). Its especially annoying when you get more than one GPU as well, although I'd imagine it makes Christmas presents easier ;D.

yea the "free" game stuff is the cancer of the GPU industry imo. the whole thing just got out of hand badly, when there was one free game it was still acceptable, but 10? that's just stupid, only makes me wonder how much the card is actually worth.
i don't think i've played any of the games i got as a freebie a whole lot, i sure as hell wouldn't have bought a single one of them.

Nexuiz was taken off the steam store a month after I finally got round to redeeming the code. Its a cry engined game which feels like a mix of Unreal torny and tribes. naturally the servers are all dead and empty now and steam broke it. I would never have bought it.

they took if off of steam? wow, i knew it wasn't good, but that is pretty bad.
i wanted to try nexuiz, i love arena fps so i kinda owed it a visit, but i never came around to try it and i can't be bothered to play bots either.
still better than supporting EA i guess.

I think they took it off because no one was buying it :l. Its actually very fun and pretty. I think you can still get it on disk for very little from amazon.

It's nice to see the 290X finally be able to stretch its legs with a proper cooler. If only AMD used a variant of the 7990 cooler, they'd have got a far better reception.

I was extremely tempted by the prospect of a new GPU soon, with a particular interest in custom versions of the 290 or 780, but now I'm thinking my HD7950 Boost has more life left in it yet.

Upgrade Bug be damned!! :p

Don't really like that hardwarecanucks review. They say they can go higher in the OC'ing section of the review easily, yet simply don't? Whats the point in reviewing its OC capability when you don't even push it to its limits? From what i saw the boost from the OC was very impressive, even with only 60% fan speed, wish they showed it running higher to see what we should at least expect from these 3rd party coolers.
