hi all i have recently built a new pc,heres the spec first,

asus p5k premium blackpearl edition motherboard

intel quad q6600 2.4 cpu

4x 1 gig sticks of corsair ddr2 dominator ram

bfg 9800 gx2 1 gig graphic card

arctic cool freezer 7 cooler

western digital 500 gig hard drive and a samsung spinpoint 750 gig hard drive

2x dvd readers writers

windows vista 64 premium

ok can anyone help me please as i am not running cryssi at all hardly,

on benchmark 06 i only get a score of 12000 +

now i was wondering if anyone can help me give me please the settings i need to overclock my cpu and overclcok my ram settings in my bios ie cpu voltage etc

i allready have flashed to the latest bios settigns for my board,

any ideas or photos for my bios settings would be greatly apreciated, thanks

Its better having 2x2GB RAM (Dual Slot) instead of 4x1GB RAM (Quad Slot)...

But, back on topic, those scores seem way off what you should be getting, are you running stock settings on 3DMark06? Make sure you are because it can make a major difference in scores. :)

hi yes iam using 3dmark06 and ithought ishould be getting better scores ?

i also tried changing therams aroung but still same, but shouldnt vista 64 run 4 gig sticks ?

About Ram i have bad memories when i was using 4 sticks, overclocking abilities droped by 50% dont know why probably its because i`m newbie to it ;], now i stay with only 2 GB on vista 64bit premium and it does the job. So first check if your system is detecting your memory properly (are they working on recommended by producer rate and timings?)if not try to put manualy settings to BIOS .To overclock your ram memory you can tight timings for example from 5-5-5-15(2t) to 4-4-4-12(2t) or you can incrase rate that they work on. Dont know what kind of modules u are using pc2-6400(800MHz) ,pc2-8500c5(1066MHz),pc2-10000C5(1250)MHz. If you will give me details about your RAM maybe i will try to google some articles about it.

About your mobo dont know if you saw it but check this

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/asus_p5kpremium_wifi/6.htm

Even if you are using stock cooler on CPU you should be able to get your q6600 to at least 3.15GHz fully stable. (Save current BIOS profile ,set AI Overclocking to manual ,CPU multiplayer x 9, Value of FSB Frequency to 350,CPU Voltage 1.4500V-(1.500V if it will be unstable)<-- those are basic stats for OC CPU , i didnt see on screenshots but if u will find somewhere tab with FSB-Memory Ratio , set it to unlinked , if it will be linked it will try to OC your memory aswell as your CPU and can fail on start.

After u set up your CPU Stable try to get some more from memory.

About Vista no one say that u should have 4 GB to runs it smooth, No game that i played requires more than 2gb. Ofcourse is better to have more than less.

About 3dMark Score and your graphic Card try to download newest drivers from sli zone not sure but old drivers can be a reason for a low score. Second thing is that 3dmark 06 likes high CPU frequency ;].

Hope this will help you a bit , have a nice day .

so far cheers all but

thanks for a superb response so far i never expected such good responce,

ok first i think my settings are set to sli if u mean in the nividia control panel under multi gpu performance mode i only get these options nividia recomended, single gpu, force split frame rendering, force alternate frame rendering 1,force alternate rendering 2,so i set it too nividia recomended.

also under multidisplay/mixed-gpu aceleration mode i have it set at single display performance mode.

ok this is what i have set my bios to sa far , fsb frequency 350,cpu voltage 1.4500v,dram frequency i had to set to ddr2 1053 because after iput the 350 for fsb thats nearest icould find to my 1066 ddr2 ram settings,i set ramm timings to 5 5 5 15,dram voltage 2.2, nb voltage 1.5,and to 2t or i think its 2n in my mobo, transaction booster i disabled it,c1e suppoet is disabled, intel speed step i disabled also,my ram is corsair ddr2 dominator pc2-8500c5 twinx 4x1 gig sticks,

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-119-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=817 a link to my memory as u asked i think lol thanks,

i have ai overclocking on manual, dram timing on manual also,

also i did try with just 2 gig sticks instead of 4 gig and no diference really as uasked me,

ok so far it seems to be running stable at 3.16 ghz it says for my cpu,but i am still getting very slow speeds and struggling with crysis,is there anything else i nee to set in my bios please for my memory or cpu etc that i might of missed, also in core temp programme iam getting core no 45,core 1 45, core 2 39 ,core 3 39,is that ok core temperatures please ?

also one last thing thats really puzzling me is that in my cpuz programme under memory then under general in the box that says size my memory numbers are flickering ? and idont know why or if this is a problem ? the memory numbers are 4096 mbytes,

any more help would be apreciated, thanks a million to ugreat ppl so far.

Are those temps under full load? If so, they seem very nice indeed. Try using Real Temp instead of Coretemp, it seems like it gives more accurate temps. Anyhow, what do you mean by your memory number is flickering? Your actual size of memory is correct, it's 4096MB. Have you tried running Orthos or Prime95 to check the stability of your OC? Remember to run two instances, and set the affinity of both to core 0 and 1, and core 2 and 3 respectively. When doing this, keep an eye on the temperatures, as they will give you a reading of how warm it gets under full load. :)

temps

i run realtemp and this is what it says thanks,

intel quad q6600 at 3159.0 mhz

core temp 42 43 38 38

minimum temp 41 42 37 37

maximum temp 46 50 42 42

but i dont know what u mean by under full load plesae or is it on that info ijust gave u,thanks.

the flickering i mean is when i open up cpuz programme and look at my memory number the actually numbers are flickering on and off if uknow what i mean, thanks

If you have extra cooler on memory sticks , try to push it up (rate) , in steps by 5 MHz

on same timings that you have now ,if your system will go up but after it will be unstable incrase voltages .Remember to save your profile each time before you do it. I am using only 2 sticks Crucial Balistix as i writed before , they are running now on 5-5-5-15(2t) 1137MHz 2.3V (from 5-5-5-15 /1066/2.1V).

About Crysis , What resolution you use and level details that you say its sruggling?

Funny thing about this game is that after you lunch Crysis your computer is starting to have one :) Didnt actually see any machine at those days who can run smoothly Crysis full details on high res and dx10.

:)ok i go do some work , hate nightshifts :)

To measure your full load temps, download a program called Orthos, run two instances of it, and open your Windows Task Manager, flick to the Process-page, select ORTHOS.exe, right click and "Set affinity". Uncheck core 2 and core 3 and press OK. Now select the other ORTHOS.exe and do the same thing, only uncheck core 0 and core 1 instead. Then, simply press "Start" on both Orthos, and it will simulate 100% CPU-load. If you're able to run this for a few hours straight without the program aborting, your OC is stable as a rock. Also, run Realtemp in the background, and check what temps you get when the CPU load is maxed out.

flickering you mean they apear and disapear in short period of time? CPUZ is refreshing info i think is normal ( have the same on my comp)

thanks so far guys

ok i will run orthos tonite or tomoz before igo to work and let uknow outcome thanks,

what do umean by this please= If you have extra cooler on memory sticks , try to push it up (rate) , in steps by 5 MHz,sorry but i dont understand that bit,

do ineed to set my northbridge settings also, also i cant minimise any games at moment without it flickering ?

i was running crysis at 1900x1200 everything on high but no antialising as ihave a 24 inch monitor,but once isave a game in crysis it will not start back up as it just laggs like mad after a save,;

sorry taking u guys time up but great info so far and top website and forums here.

do you have new patch for crysis?try to download newest it improve game performance on sli settings, second thing i was playing crysis on my comp same rez when i had xp professional(on dx9) on high setings , was fully playable , when i change it to vista frame rate has droped almost 40%. Its becouse of dx10, you have more effects, try to make custom setting decreasing water effect and physics and motion blur to medium , should help a bit, and change setings in vista to preformance(turning of this aero

s and bits ;]) if you have a USB flash memory device using high speed USB , u can boost your comp a bit with Vista ReadyBoost.

About your memory sticks i was talking about frequency they work (standard for your is 1066 MHz) you can increase it. do it in small steps if you are not shure about memory.

and dont be sorry ;] have a nice day ;]
