asus maximus raid issue

hey guys

I've just installed my mobo and whatnot.

now i'm trying to install RAID into windows.

I've done the following to get the intel RAID controller up:

gone into BIOS

gone into Main

gone into SATA information

set "configure sata as" to RAID

then gone into advanced

then onboard device configuration

then disabled JMicron SATA/RAID OptRom

only then can i get into the CTRL + I menu to set my RAID 0.

however......lil snag........it sees the HDDs........but it doesn't see the dvd-rw drives...thus I can't install windows.

If i re-enable the JMicron SATA/RAID OptRom, The system sees the dvd-rw drives, but not the RAID 0 setup that was initially set up on the Intel RAID controller........I can't actually see how to set up the RAID on the JMicon controller either....

help?

edit:

even If i disable the JMicron controller completly, the boot menu just shows the following:

1st Floppy Drive

RAID: 1430SA#0-#0 Multimedia (My RAID 10 array)

RAID: Intel System (my RAID 0 array which is what I want to install my OS onto)

but no DVD-RW drives....

Hmm, this is very odd.. My raid works fine...

Does the Jmicron controller have raid/ata? if so set it to ata.

Are your dvd drives sata?

If you cant get it sorted ill have a look in my bios, let you know what i get.

You sure your using intel raid bios as well to set up the drives?

2x dvd-rw drives - both on IDE

basically if i keep the JMicron controller enabled, but disable the JMicron SATA/RAID OptRom, the RAID 0 is shown, but enable the JMicron SATA/RAID OptRom and the RAID 0 disapears but the DVD-RW drives are shown.

oh and btw - newest version of the BIOS

hm, not sure if i'm on that, haven't updated for about a month...

Sounds a bit odd. Its deffinately the intel raid bios you are using?

I dont think its CTRL+I to enter it, its something like enter or something along those lines, but I could be wrong.

yup - definatly the intel one.

- can't for the life of me figure out how to enter into the JMicron one if i choose to enable it....

The JMicron controller is the IDE controller so you need to enable it and set it to IDE mode which should be on the lower tree of the JMicron option in the main BIOS.

aye, I've tried that, even with the jmicron controller enabled, set to ide, but JMicron SATA/RAID OptRom disabled, it still doesn't wanna work.

edit:

it seems the only solution is to buy sata dvd-rw drives.........not really a gr8 solution to an expensive board :/

even this guy has showed similar issues: http://asusindependent.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=50&st=20

U tried 1 dvd drive on it`s own and at the end of the ide cable ?

just tried that - didn't want to know :/

are you using the intel raid or the jmicron raid?

if you are using the intel one, could u possibly give me your config in BIOS?

in mine i have the following:

Main:

Sata configuration

configure SATA as [RAID]

hard disk write protect [disabled]

sata detect time out (sec) [35]

Advanced:

Onboard devices configuration

J-Micron PATA/SATA controller [Enabled]

Controller mode [IDE]

JMicron SATA/RAID OptRom [Disabled]

I can't see anything else that relates to this :/

It seems that the JMicron Controller wants to start up at the same time as the intel one, subsequently it seems to override it and I can only get a choice of one or the other...

Got you PM, I mean, Try reseting your bios completely, then just enable intel raid and set up your raid...

Thats all I did, and myns working purfect :)

Hope that helps

hey buddy, just tried resetting the cmos.......nada.

I have to disable the optrom on the jmicron for the intel sata raid to come up, but as soon as i do that.......bye bye dvd-rw drives.

i also removed my adaptec raid card just to see if that was conflicting - still nothing.

going to try a SATA dvd-rw drive first, see how it goes - and if it doesn't work.......i'll cry and RMA it........somehow - considering its now got custom waterblocks lol

Oh bummer.. Well then give me till tommorow to look in my bios, and keep bumping the thread till i remember

ok guys - 2x SATA RW drives have just come in.

and well........it works.

disabled the jmicron, enabled the intel one, everything is as some londoners say........."Pukka"

system sees windows cd, windows setup sees raid array - its all freakin sweet - shame it cost me an extra £30 :s

asus are bloody useless:

"Dear Alex I can't help you but I can give you two phone numbers to call

Germany: 0049 1805010923

USA: 0018122822787

Kind regards

yea......lets call another country about their crappy support....

I've noticed recently that Asus customer services sucks a touch. I was trying to RMA a motherboard and went directly to them. They just kept asking question that I'd already answered and then started telling me it was probably "customer induced damage"... I remembered when I bought it from in the end and went to Ebuyer even though it was out of their 12 months coverage and they sorted it out for me.

Must have sent about 8 emails to Asus directly with no joy... Just didn't wanna do me an RMA.

Got a nice new board now though.
