Asus GTX670

Hello everyone,

I am about to buy all of my components, which I took advice from you guys. Although, I have been reading reviews on the ASUS GTX670 and they seem bad. I have been reading that after 2-4 weeks the video card goes bad. Some have success, but its very low percentage. I am wondering what other GTX670 do you guys recommend instead of this one. Let me point out that I like this card very much, but I don't want to take a chance with these number, and plus I hear ASUS customer service really sucks.

Thanks again!

Asus's support is hit or miss. I have had good luck with them, while mates of mine get shafted

Any of the KFA2, Gigabyte Windforce or Asus DCII (not the TOP version though)

Don't buy the EVGA unless you intend to watercool it, as it uses the reference cooler and so is louder.

I have the KFA2 version which I find amazing. I keep the fans locked to 30% so it's always silent, and in gaming the temps don't even go above 60 degrees C, and that's including an overclock. I'm sure the Asus and Gigabyte will be the same story though

It's still a reference cooler though. Agreed it's probably better than the reference 670 cooler, but it's still a reference cooler and it will never be as cool or quiet as an aftermarket solution

Thats why I am afraid of getting the video card. It looks like its solid built but they are so many bad ones that people are getting its making me afraid of getting one.

I looked at the MSI version and it looks really nice. I like the frozer design and its speeds are not that bad.

Also there is an EVGA GTX670 Signutire edition that doesnt have reference design. What do you guys thing of it? I have a GTX260 EVGA and I never had any problems with it and I hear they are really good with the GTX600 editions.

I will be buying a GTX670 in two weeks for my new build.

Thanks guys for the input btw.

EVGA is an excellent brand and has very good customer service. Asus customer service is pretty bad from what I hear. Ive never had to use them so I cant say for sure but there are horror stories all over the internet about it. HardOCP's forums has an Asus rep that lurks around on there and when somebody posts up about a problem with their Asus gear, he usually gets on the case and gets things moving for them.

Truth be told, pretty much everybody's customer service is hit or miss for the most part. Corsair is probably the best with Logitech a close 2nd and like I said, EVGA is highly touted for their support so if thats a concern for you, that would be the brand Id go after.

if you dont plan on watercooling it in the future the evga 670 signature
should be fine mate

The FTW is quiet @ stock has a fu***** high default clock and a pcb that fits with a lot of watercoolers aviable.

Couldnt be more wrong mate, nowadays the oem cooler s normally the quietest

Really?
Is that just for nvidia or AMD too?

My reference 7950 was as loud as hell.

I was always under the impression that the OEM coolers had to work a lot harder under load to keep the temps down, whilst the dual/triple fan alternatives can keep their fans locked down to very low speeds and keep the same temps.

Maybe with all fans locked at 30% in both cases reference may be quieter - but as soon as you put load on it and the fans spin up that changes surely...?

Otherwise there wouldn't really be any point to having after market coolers

I had the FTW on air before I got my watercooling loop and I didn't hear it @ all, the fan reachs @ load max. 40% fan speed and is verry quiet.

Asus has been making bad PCB's for years. Personally, I would stick to EVGA or Gigabyte, no matter what card I was buying.

Well thats reassuring because I wanted a quiet system; the one I have now is extremely loud and I can't wait to get rid of it.

The thing this I like the anthethitic of the Asus, I mean the back plate and the black and red design goes with my color scheme. Thats this the main reason I was going to buy it. But now, since I had EVGA for a long time, the signature design does offer a different cooling system and I can always buy a backplate for like $20.

I have been reading on newegg.com and there is a rep that is helping customers with bad reviews where the card fails on them after a few weeks.
Should I take that chance, and hopefully I don't get a bad one, but in the case that I do, I would just write a bad review on newegg?

What do you guys think?

That's a little bit misleading though isn't it? The OEM is quieter because the fans spin slow and therefore the card is hotter.

Heat obviously isn't an issue but if you got the windforce and made a custom fan profile in Afterburner then I'm sure it would be cooler and quieter.

Not a big deal overall but I'd still get a non-ref cooler because I really don't like the way the OEM cooler looks but that is personal obviously...

The 680 stock cooler for example is very quiet .. the amp edition of Zotac in cmparison is -snip- noisy.
