Assetto Corsa Pre challenge thoughts

So as the title suggests I'm looking for thoughts into the upcoming Assetto Corsa hotlaps challenge.. as you are probably aware this sim has so many options and I'd like to make this one a real challenge for the die hard sim racers.

So far we have a general idea with regard to choosing a car and track (props to Warchild on the suggestion) now for the first event I'll either use Random.org or add a pole to this thread to kick us off but for every other event we could drop our suggestions in the thread and vote from there each consecutive month.

So for race settings what would you guys be happy with? Please leave your opinions below and we can get a second challenge rolling as soon as you're all ready.

Race settings is difficult as we all have different control schemes. I use PRO or custom with manual shifting (in manual cars of course) flappy paddles where available and full clutch/no blip. Where I Noob out is that I use the racing line.

I think gearbox should be up to the racers. If you want auto - go auto. It's actually faster to use an H pattern so no terrible advantage there.

For assists - I think Damage on, Traction, ABS, Tyre Wear should be default or factory.

We could make it drivers discretion on these I guess it depends how realistic you all want to be. Once again harsher ABS or traction may benefit/hinder some control schemes and we're all free to play with the settings as we wish so no disadvantage if you choose to make it open slather. I don't really mind either way but for a race control then the more locked down the assists the more level the playing field.

Slip stream - well we're solo so no issues, Tyre blankets up to the racer - saves a warm up lap and once again we're solo so no advantage whether you hit your fastest lap on lap one or seventeen.

Weather should be fine/clear - although as long as we're all on the same settings then we can do wet laps as well for added fun.

Happy with random.org as I have the full DLC but also happy to have a poll if some of us don't have full access. Could always gift a DLC pack on steam as a prize?

I use Pro/Pro Custom settings pictured in the OP and that's with controller (for now) racing line I don't mind as it's only a rough braking guide and not interactive like the one in PCars.

Still think we need a little tougher rules for this one. Consider PCars open to all with do what you want assists.

AC - The demanding challenge, certain assists off etc.

I generally run with the cars at factory with stability off but will quite often hotlap with ABS and Traction off too so I'm easy, what about you guys?

As long as we can have a level playing field im happy. Can we see what assists are used when posting times? dont want unfair advantages

We could use something like RSR Live timings, which also displays your used assists.

This I feel is perfect for making it fair.

Why not see if the assists speed people up or slow them down.

If it makes laps easier but slower I dont see a reason to demand turning them off when it will make it easier for the bulk of people

I could run a trial event with a free for all, but this being a Sim and not an Arcade racer like PCars the variables are just too many as you can well appreciate from your RFactor days, I get the whole make it accessible for everyone but that's why we have the PCars challenge.

We're just trying to determine the main settings for the laps to be valid.

I'd say damage is a must have 100% - try cranking the turbo up in the Quattro S1 and you'll blow the motor in no time.

Also agree that maybe we see how the first challenge goes before we decide levels of traction/abs style assists. Categorise the driver aids versus god mode cheats.

Also as above auto clutch or blip really has to be users choice or you can't control it without a three pedal + H Shifter wheel setup.

Aye, Assetto is a whole different animal compared to say Dirt, PCars, Forza or Grid it's a no holds bared driving sim and demands proper respect. We shall have to sort a quick event out and see how things go.

Hold up I thought I had all the dlc but no Escort RS in my garage! Is it a mod or a skin?

Well I got AC from Wraith so I have 0 DLC

How much DLC is there? maybe i can buy it cheap from some dubious site.

Lets put it another way - think of the real world...

I wouldnt want to drive my car without ABS and I only flick traction control when Im at traffic lights and want to leave in a cloud of Michelin....

I have the Dream Packs and that's it the Escort is a Mod so not official content but it's my dream motor so much fun to drive. I have 3 mods of my own too, a KinetiK Trophy truck, Mobility Scooter and the Little tykes toy car but we'll not be using those either. :lol:
