Today it has been confirmed that Apple has now acquired the audio brand Beats, which are known for the headphones, speakers and audio software. Beats co-founders Jimmy Lovine and Dr. Dre will join Apple. Apple will be acquiring the brand for a sum of $3billion, consisting of a purchase price of approximately $2.6billion and $400million that will be vest overtime.

"Music is such an important part of all of our lives and holds a special place within our hearts at Apple," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "That's why we have kept investing in music and are bringing together these extraordinary teams so we can continue to create the most innovative music products and services in the world." "I've always known in my heart that Beats belonged with Apple," said Jimmy Iovine. "The idea when we started the company was inspired by Apple's unmatched ability to marry culture and technology. Apple's deep commitment to music fans, artists, songwriters and the music industry is something special."

Do you think this is a wise buy for Apple, what results are you expecting to see out of this purchase by Apple, possibly improved sound within iPhone/iPods and iPads maybe?

Rumours suggest the purchase was because they wanted to aquire there music streaming service above all else.

It's also worth noting that HTC a majority share in Beats up until recently, were Beats bought their share back from what I understand because they weren't happy with the sales on the latest HTC smartphones featuring the Beats Audio speakers.

In other words so their profit margins for the already way-to-fucking-expensive and shit beats headphones are EVEN HIGHER by removing the middle-man. Surprise, sur-fucking-prise...

I've got fond memories of Apple, but I'm glad I only use their stuff at work now. This is basically just a license for them to print money :(

I put the streaming bit in there Tom. :)

I don't know, so they'll use the streaming service but they'll work on the hardware side too won't they, I wonder how they'll improve, the HTC Beats Audio on the HTC One was crap, sure it sounded better than all other mobile speakers but there was no Beat in it at all.

But my statement still stands.... removing the layer between apple and beats means the profit from shitty beats goes direct-a-mundo to apple ?

Its not like they have been given Beats fella. They have just paid a small fortune to make sure they own the two biggest streaming companies on the plannet.

The money from the audio side - sure profit margin is huge but its pocket change compared to what they could end up getting from streaming.

True that! It was after all $2.6B for Beats and $400M for the remaining stock, you just know crApple have zero interest in the hardware. It's all about global streaming domination.

Well when a company has over $100bn in cash lying around they can afford to do these kind of acquisitions.

Also I guess now we get to see Apple fanbois going around with the logo on the side of their head for a change.

I just hope they don't "BEATS Audio" in the new iPhone. iOS products already have some of the best audio processing out of the vast majority if not all other handsets. I don't want them to ruin it with Beats.

This 100%!!! Don't touch the iPod/iPhone audio setup you'll bloody ruin it. That is one thing they have got down perfectly

I'd imagine they might do this to the lower end 'color' iphones.
