So at last count about ten minutes ago here is what I am using.
Headsets. I use one of these for my phone (the neck band) and the other when I am away.
Nice and cheap and cheerful. I have one of these for Skype when I am out.
Beats Replica. I got these so cheap that I could not say no. They are not the cheap Beats replicas, they are the more expensive (and better made) ones. Say what you like about Beats but I do love how they look
Solo HD Ltd Ed in red.
Studio in red.
Dr Dre Detox pro LTD Ed in black.
Those are actually THE loudest set of cans I have. They are so loud they make your ears ring. Sound is punchy but not really deep enough BUT if I am angry and want to vent I just chuck them on and pump out Rob Zombie and Social D.
I don't wear in ears but at £5 I could not refuse. I used to have a contact in Hong Kong see, that's where all of it came from. I only paid £28 for the Detox. The real ones were £400.
In ears. I don't usually ever buy in ears. I love how they sound, not so much how they feel. I have these Oppo MH124 I got with my phone and decided to keep them after no interest.
They sound really nice. I just don't like stuffing things in my ears but I have them in a padded carry case for when I go somewhere real noisy.
B&O Form 2.
I bought these to listen to the football (soccer) commentary as I can wear them all day not even knowing they are there. Sadly they don't fold and being open and not very powerful they are useless for outdoor use etc but they are good for the task I use them for
B&O P6.
Originally these were a choice. I chose to get Grados instead. However, a few months later I was bumming around on Ebay and they came up in a pricing error. I paid £130, around half the going rate. Had them confirmed legit with B&O and tbh? you would know if they were fake as genuine leather is not a cheap commodity. They will eventually be ran from the Aune TK1 amp with the Cambridge DAC magic.
Hifiman He400S Planar Magnetic headphones.
I bought these because they are large and have larger drivers in them. Plus I was curious to see how Planar Magnetic headphones sounded. Look up the tech, it does not use a conventional driver it uses two magnets with a thin substrate jammed between.
I soon fell in love with their depth and bass drop. I usually use these for reggae, beat driven music (club, rap, etc) and to listen to bass CDs. Yes, I actually do that. What I love about these is no matter how much bass you stuff through them they do not become quiet when you crank the bass and nor does the treble and midrange suffer either. So I use these a lot.
Grado RS2E.
With the G cushion.
I bought these to see what the fuss was about. Turns out the fuss was correct. These are THE most detailed and "honest" set of cans I have ever listened to. I use them for live recordings and classical music. They have a sound stage you would not believe. It literally sounds like you have a band peforming behind you. I've always said that if a singer can not sing live they can not sing at all. I have lots of albums of live recordings I listen to with these and nothing comes close.
Musical Fidelity MF100.
I got those for £40 on a clearout. They are known to be very bass heavy and they are, but this is good for when I go out and want to still hear the bass over the noise around me. They are currently my phone headphones of choice due to taking up little space in my back pack.
Sound cards/devices.
Recon 3D (onboard)
Xonar U1 lite.
I use that to run the speakers in my monitor (B&O) and a Bose sub I converted.
Asus Xonar DX. This is in my 2008 Area 51.
Asus Xonar D2X. This is driving the LD2/GSLEE
SB Titanium HD
Amps.
For my Hifiman I use a Little Dot MK2
Running into a Graham Slee Entheos Novo series.
Aune TK1 valve DAC/amp
B-tech amplifier.
This has been heavily modified already (tone controls removed, circuit changed and a new front made) and I have a gold capacitor to fit to it too. It cost me around £18 delivered, with mods around £30 and it is one of the best sounding amps I have. I am currently using it with the Xonar DX and my Grados (as I type this).
Cambridge Audio DAC Magic.
Just sorted this out tonight. Will be getting it end of next week. I will be using this to run into either the B-tech amplifier (modified) or the Aune. Not decided yet.
I think that's all of it.
