So at last count about ten minutes ago here is what I am using.

Headsets. I use one of these for my phone (the neck band) and the other when I am away.

Nice and cheap and cheerful. I have one of these for Skype when I am out.

Beats Replica. I got these so cheap that I could not say no. They are not the cheap Beats replicas, they are the more expensive (and better made) ones. Say what you like about Beats but I do love how they look :)

Those are actually THE loudest set of cans I have. They are so loud they make your ears ring. Sound is punchy but not really deep enough BUT if I am angry and want to vent I just chuck them on and pump out Rob Zombie and Social D.

I don't wear in ears but at £5 I could not refuse. I used to have a contact in Hong Kong see, that's where all of it came from. I only paid £28 for the Detox. The real ones were £400.

In ears. I don't usually ever buy in ears. I love how they sound, not so much how they feel. I have these Oppo MH124 I got with my phone and decided to keep them after no interest.

They sound really nice. I just don't like stuffing things in my ears but I have them in a padded carry case for when I go somewhere real noisy.

B&O Form 2.

I bought these to listen to the football (soccer) commentary as I can wear them all day not even knowing they are there. Sadly they don't fold and being open and not very powerful they are useless for outdoor use etc but they are good for the task I use them for :)

B&O P6.

Originally these were a choice. I chose to get Grados instead. However, a few months later I was bumming around on Ebay and they came up in a pricing error. I paid £130, around half the going rate. Had them confirmed legit with B&O and tbh? you would know if they were fake as genuine leather is not a cheap commodity. They will eventually be ran from the Aune TK1 amp with the Cambridge DAC magic.

Hifiman He400S Planar Magnetic headphones.

z8vawcj.jpg

I bought these because they are large and have larger drivers in them. Plus I was curious to see how Planar Magnetic headphones sounded. Look up the tech, it does not use a conventional driver it uses two magnets with a thin substrate jammed between.

I soon fell in love with their depth and bass drop. I usually use these for reggae, beat driven music (club, rap, etc) and to listen to bass CDs. Yes, I actually do that. What I love about these is no matter how much bass you stuff through them they do not become quiet when you crank the bass and nor does the treble and midrange suffer either. So I use these a lot.

Grado RS2E.

I bought these to see what the fuss was about. Turns out the fuss was correct. These are THE most detailed and "honest" set of cans I have ever listened to. I use them for live recordings and classical music. They have a sound stage you would not believe. It literally sounds like you have a band peforming behind you. I've always said that if a singer can not sing live they can not sing at all. I have lots of albums of live recordings I listen to with these and nothing comes close.

Musical Fidelity MF100.

I got those for £40 on a clearout. They are known to be very bass heavy and they are, but this is good for when I go out and want to still hear the bass over the noise around me. They are currently my phone headphones of choice due to taking up little space in my back pack.

Sound cards/devices.

Recon 3D (onboard)

Xonar U1 lite.

I use that to run the speakers in my monitor (B&O) and a Bose sub I converted.

Asus Xonar DX. This is in my 2008 Area 51.

B-tech amplifier.

This has been heavily modified already (tone controls removed, circuit changed and a new front made) and I have a gold capacitor to fit to it too. It cost me around £18 delivered, with mods around £30 and it is one of the best sounding amps I have. I am currently using it with the Xonar DX and my Grados (as I type this).

Cambridge Audio DAC Magic.

Just sorted this out tonight. Will be getting it end of next week. I will be using this to run into either the B-tech amplifier (modified) or the Aune. Not decided yet.

I think that's all of it.

Damn dude, you have more sound equipment than I have ever had in my entire life lol.

The first image, everytime I see a headset like that, it makes me cringe... As I always got fatigue from using those kind of designs, where the earpad is actually sitting and pushing down on top of the ear.

Which of the soundcards would you personally recommend that is the best mix of both worlds when it comes to gaming and music (with nice bass to it)? :)

My mate just bought some of those KRKs. Rockit? something like that. Are they any good?

I looooove them, but they are a bit bassy so i turned the bass a bit down on the amp, other then that, they serve quite well and i wont replace them anytime soon.

FailFish really Beats.

Beats have to be one of the most over rated headphones on the market they don't sound good the only thing Beats are any good at is Fashion and that's it.

The Plantronic headset is for when I am traveling. It's bashed and so on, last thing I would want to do to a set of cans. I forgot to post my mic, I have a Blue Snowball and it's large and heavy so I don't take it anywhere..

My favourite of the two sound cards is the Soundblaster. It has different OP amps to the D2X and I think it sounds a bit better.

However if you are craving the modern sort of bass you get out of modern headphones then you will need to use an EQ. I know that is a swear word in the world of audio but I am a bass head as much as I love my sound quality, so my Grados run flat and I use the Asus EQ with the D2X to run the Hifimans. Apparently they are bass light out of the box any way.

You won't go far wrong with the Essence dude. It's expensive but it should last you a lifetime really.

Yup. I would describe them as "muddy". They are fun to listen to rap with though but yeah, awful SQ. The Detox do sound quite nice but don't drop as they should.

Oddly enough it's said that some of the fakes actually sound better than the real thing. I would imagine this is because the Chinese bloke who made them actually used more expensive drivers than the real ones have lol.

I don't use any of them any more though. I used to use nothing but speakers but since moving into a flat I have taken headphones and amps far more seriously than I ever did. It's better and causes less arguments.

Edit:

Hey Dice. Interested to know.. Why do you have Philips Fidelios and Beyers? I think I know the answer but was curious any way. My guess is that the Philips are far more detailed than the Beyers and the Beyers are more fun?

From my research it seems that the Fidelios are a similar sort of headphone to Grado and Beyer more similar to my Hifimans. That's why I have both, as nothing can beat the Grados for clarity and depth but nothing can beat the Hifimans for fun :D

The 770's are closed back and serious bass beasts, The X2's have a really wide sound stage, I'd say in some instances even wider than the 650's plus they have a decent amount of bass for open back and yeah they are fun :)
