it didnt pop... it just kept going >< i went downstairs to get a drink + i came back up to a room full of smoke . and it still boots now untill it gets to the xp load screen and then it restarts ... oh atleast it did till it proper popped outside and made a nice big bang ><

Whoa good job mate! Shame they've asked you to return it really. Would have been interesting to see what the cause of death was.

I had a PSU arrive a few weeks ago with a screw floating around inside! had I have turned that on I'm sure it would have been an interesting fireworks display :p

+reps

Good coverage from the shop, but quite a lousy psu :/ Just confirms once again not to skimp on the quality of your psu.

Thermaltake toughpowers are reasonable psu's anything else can be iffy and the one you have/had is knocking on abit now.

Agreed, toughpowers are made by a decent OEM (forget who) from memory, so they are OK. PSUs are one of those things not to skimp on.

Reps for that smoke filled room

no matter who made it, anything thermaltake is somethin id aim to avoid

altho could probably happen to any brand

.....

ok then i ran a tt750 for over a year with no hassle powering 8800gt's 8800gtx's and even a 3870x2 .. along with a quad @ 3.6 their psu's are amazing value for money

Aye TT psus are ok its just there water cooling stuff u avoid.

Wow, only ever had 1 PSU go on me, small bang and a burning smell not a cloud of smoke.

I'm happy with my toughpower 1500w...seems pretty stable and even on heavy load the votages are within about .5% of where they should be.

just saying from my experience i would avoid them (myself)

id rather pc power and cooling or ocz, corsair

Thats cos its 2 750watters like welshys was on about in one unit practically :p

They just got the vaseline out and slipped it in ;)

Yeah, suits me though, although the case is pretty big. Hope its not vaseline, otherwise we could be onto a repeat of Welshy's PSU...:micro:

Its basically the same PSU as the Corsair HX1000. Made in the same factory, same PCB layout. Only thing thats different is the quality of a few capacitors and the fact that Thermaltake milked it for all its worth labelling it as "1500w" whereas Corsair were much more conservative and called it "1000w".
