Devbox - a build for a friend

This a project build that I had started a few months ago, but have only recently gotten the time to log properly.

The build is for my friend John, who studies computing here in Belfast and asked me for advice. Like any good friend, I walked him through the basics of building a PC and helped him source parts online.

This PC is for development work and light gaming.

Below are this PC's specifications.

CPU: Intel i5 4670K
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S
Motherboard: ASUS Z97 Maximus VII Gene
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer memory 4x4GB (16GB)
GPU: ASUS GTX 950
SSD: Crucial BX200 480GB
HDD: Seagate 2TB Mechanical drive
Case: Bitfenix Aegis

The CPU and SSD were sourced from CEX, a second hand parts retailer here in the UK.
The first CPU that we purchased was faulty, but we were quickly able to replace it and get the system up and running.

We decided to go MATX for this build in order to get a good balance between size and expandability. We went for 16GB of RAM so that there would be plenty of RAM to use for both his development work and gaming.
John moved from a laptop with 4GB of RAM, so he is more than happy with this upgrade.
All of the parts used in this system are second hand, including the HDD which was previously used in one of my own PCs (I gave this to him for free). John has already purchased a 2TB external drive to use as a backup.

For cooling we decided to go with Noctua, one of the best providers of air coolers on the market. I reached out to TTL to help me bling out this PC with some more aesthetically pleasing fans, so he sent me some red Noctua rubber corner replacements and some NF-S12B redux fans.
Sadly the corner replacements sre not officially compatible with these fans, but we made them fit.

To build this PC I did each job first, setting in the CPU, installing RAM etc and then took away the parts and let John then place them. John took to building PCs well but was very glad to have some assistance.

All-in-all John was very happy with the PC building expereince and at the end of it all created a lovely looking PC.
Sadly I forgot to take some pictures after we installed Windows and I installed my spare LED strip inside.

None of the parts inside of this PC are overclocked, but we do have plans on overclocking this system in the future.

I will update this with a few more pictures and comments later. [Spoilers: John bought me a gift for helping him out :) ]
