Andre's Z77 Personal Rig

Nice looking speakers you got there... I gotta ask though... what's with the cables? they are thick and white and unnecessary . The Amp has a lot of final transistors, I like the radiators on the sides... the aluminium front side looks something like the finish on your case, I like that. I have an aluminium amp me and my dad built a few years ago and it has the same kind of transistors. My dad's an electronics engineer and he said that those kind of transistors have high power output. He didn't wanna make it more powerful cause he knew I am going to turn the volume up and disturb him lol... And it's already pretty loud. It doesn't look as good but ... pics later ;)

thanks man
the quality of that amp is not even comparable at all with the case to be honest, there is about 2mm of aluminum on the front of the case at most and the rest is all plastic.

in my opinion the Classé DR-9 is one of the best amps they have ever made to this day.

the aesthetics of the cables like anything is subjective but they are very good cables, made by Tara labs

i'd like to see pictures of the amp you guys made do post them when you have some.

Sure I will post some pics... He designed the actual PCB's and built them himself.. the tone corrector too. Back in the days magnetophones came out and he bought one called Majak

This is a pic of an original Majak
2_38.jpg

The original Majak had an amp of 8VA(W) and it was mono. Then he modified it, designed the amps, put in a different power supply that provided more volts and amps ( MADE BY HIMSELF ) for more power... The AMP then supplied 25VA per channel. He kept that magnetophone till I grew up and discovered it and started sing it... My dad used it along side two huge 12VA speakers that would simply make you deaf lol but when I was little I gave them away, did all sorts of stuff plus one had a hole in it cause my dog bit it and tore it. I regret giving those speakers away till this day. Anyway, later after that I made me some speakers and we transfered the amps and tone corrector to another box and replaced the PSU for more Amps and Volts so now it makes 2X40VA on 4 Ohms , but he said he can make it as powerful as 120 VA per chan at 8 Ohms if he changes the power signal and adds more volts from the transformer ( power supply ).

Glad to meet you Andre! My dad was into sound systems and TV, he built some pretty amazing stuff. Computers weren't close enough for him to grasp at that time, the times were different on this side of the world.. you lived close to a place where computers come from... It must have been cool growing up and building computers with your dad or learning from him.

hey man
again im really enjoying our long conversations about hardware and computers :)

my dad was into anything electronics related - he had stuff like laser disc player right when that came out and a 36 inch crt tv way back in the day, which was a massive thing, etc.

i definitely consider myself lucky that my dad always had the latest electronics and computers, throughout my entire life we have always had good computers.

i remember playing around with an old apple computer i had back before my first HP pc in 2002 and i opened it up and played around inside of it, i was only about 10 at the time.

what kind of things did you dad do / have back in the day?

I grew up around my dad but he was more of an inovator than anything else... He wasn't only passionate about Electronics, he also knew mechanics... umm hidraulics... he built a tractor a few years back when I was about 4-5 years old, I think he still has the project book he drew the parts he later manufactured himself. he used a 4 horsepower engine back then for it... he is awesome with everything, amplifiers... he used to incorporate Dolby Stereo built by him when he was in college .. did some stabilizers that prevented amps to distort. Electronics is awesome, I had a go at it when I was little, should have followed, but I didn't.

Your cable management looks very tight! You are a perfectionish... I am hoping you are finally happy with it? or... no? :)

your dad sound just like mine actually -- my dad is good with anything mechanical, electronic, electrical, and good at building with his hands too. he is a perfectionist and always does an extremely high quality job with everything he does. In the past he has had all sorts of projects including stuff like building the apple ii back when the apple ii came out, lots of work on old muscle cars that he had, work on motorcycles, even stuff like building his own speaker enclosures and things like that.

thank you! basically how it usually goes with my own builds is i usually don't get a cable management job i'm happy with for a few weeks or so after i start the build, but i am always irritated and can't just sit and enjoy it properly until i get a cable layout that i am happy with, you know?

i am very happy with this, i just have a couple more small things i want to do with it.

i ordered a bitfenix alchemy PWM cable for the roof fans because i don't have any fan cables here that i am happy with, and i ordered a couple other things as well which i will show later on.

MSI Click BIOS II

Yesterday I had a look at the MSI Click Bios II software, which is basically the same bios you get at boot except it runs in windows as software.

Yeah your dad sounds like my dad too. These are the kind of engineers that matter.

Nice little MSI software you got there. Is it useful? Man, I can't belive the different between the price and quality of my MSI board VS yours. I am glad mine still gives me plenty of options to overclock, control over all the voltages that are important trough the same old blue/yellow interface. Some peple still prefer that type of BIOS!:)
