JANUARY 9TH!!!!!!!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen with graphics card upgrade plans, circle the date January 09, 2012, for this is going to be the day AMD will launch its next generation high-performance graphics cards in the Radeon HD 7900 series, according to reliable market sources DonanimHaber spoke with. On the 9th, AMD is expected to unveil at least two new SKUs in the HD 7900 series, most likely, HD 7970 and HD 7950. These will be based on the new 28 nm "Tahiti" silicon that will use completely redesigned number-crunching machinery, and a very wide memory bus.

So we know the specs from Azurite's thread

4.50 billion transistors, die-area of 380 mm², built on TSMC 28 nm process

Advanced GCN 1D architecture

2048 1D processing cores

128 TMUs, 48 ROPs

384-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, memory clock slightly below 1 GHz, target bandwidth of 240~264 GB/s

We know what the PCB looks like from one of my earlier threads

There is also rumors that based off the specs that the 7970 will be up to 60% faster than a 6970

Which makes these suspicious benches look less suspicious and more realistic

I just post what I find from looking around.

I didn't apply for the job Tom posted, don't want the responsibility tbh

but i'm happy posting what I find when I find it. Everyone should post some news if they come across anything worth posting though, it also helps OC3D because when people Google for info these threads will show up and more people will learn about the site.

SeiB you deserve a reward for all your hard work.

The only question that needs answering know is release price, anyone fancy estimating for the 7970.

Just Imagen what a 7990 would be like, if it will ever exist.

Price for the 7970 has been rumored for $499 the 7950 $399 the 7870 $299 and the 7850 $199

All rumors though and not confirmed prices, don't know how likely they are are either not long before we find out though.

Thanks a lot for the info SieB. AMD is definitely wanting to show these new cards at CES 2012. Can't wait to see how these cards will fare.

Any news on what the green team will be releasing, I hope the 7000 cards can really step out in front, AMD needs it after the epic fail of BD.

well we saw similar reports (bullcrap) prior to BD release I'll hold judgement until their out. But I have to call a turd a turd when it is in fact a turd

Fanboism makes your mind delusional.

I am not a AMD fanboy or a Nvidia fanboy I buy what ever offers me the best performance for the money I can afford. Also, as mentioned before AMD's GPU department is separate to their CPU department.

I don't know why people have this delusion that Nvida are some sort of superior company because before the 5 series they did quite bad.

Take a look at the benches below but remember that some of the games are Nvidia optimized.

Also remember that a 6970 costs around £250 and a 580 costs about £350 for a decent one so also take that into consideration when looking at the performance. The AMD cards do run a bit hotter and louder but they still perform and price to performance wise they are the bang for your buck.

As I said before I am not a AMD or a Nvidia fanboy and when kelper comes I will be just as excited as I am for the AMD 7 series and whoever wins, wins, but i'm not gonna let fanboyism cloud my judgment.

aye and I did say I'd wait to pass judgement.

to me that extra l100 is worth it for less noise and heat. Like another forum member here who bought an AMD gpu and then spent a several $$$ to wc it to calm it down when all he had to do was get the nvidia equivalent. But I'll wait their release befro3e passing final judgement and if it is as I said in the last part a turd I'll pleasantly call it thusly.

It has now been scientifically proven that you can polish a turd....
