Amplifier Suggestions

My current setup is a Creative Labs cheap XiFi with a Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500 digital thingie.

I want to simplify (too many bloody cables that I have no idea what most of them do) - and I have a bit of cash burning a hole in my pocket (as it does)...

I am using XP - but may upgrade to Vista (when hell freezes over - hey at least I acknowledge a possibility)

My initial thought for a new soundcard is an Auzentech XiFi Prelude and use a single optical link to the amplifier. For speakers I would use the existing Cambridge Soundworks ones initially and then change them as the mood takes me...

I am only looking for 5.1 - not 7.1

Any suggestions?

Yeah - but I want to use an optical cable rather than all those 3.5mm jacks.

Budget - good question. Cheap enough to do the job well - but not stupid money. Its for the computer - not the TV
