AMD's Hawaii might be more powerful than advertised

You seem to be basing this on only this generation of cards, during the AMD 4xxx, Nvidia 4xx and AMD 5xxx/6xxx, Nvidia 5xx it was the other way around with Nvida being behind. In fact the 480 situation is basically the same as the 290 one.

At one point in time AMD will behind and Nvidia will be infront and vice versa. It's how it has been for years and most likely how it will be in years to come.
Just because AMD was late with the 290 doesn't mean they will be late with other cards or that Nvidia wont be either.

that's why i restricted my judgement to this generation of gpus, didn't i? i didn't say that nvidia never disappointed, but this gen AMD did.
chances are they will be late next gen though, nvidia is targeting march/april iirc, would be one hell of an achievement to get an equal performing gen out in time for amd.

No you were making it a big deal that AMD were late with the 290 and making out like Nvidia were better because of it.
If AMD are late with the next generation of cards then it's the first time in three years they have been behind and Nvidia in front when releasing a new generation.

7xx, R8 and R9 don't count as new generations because they are just rehashes of the 7xxx and 6xx series.

Thing is it's all a big circle and has been for years, like I said in my previous post at one point in time AMD will be in front and Nvidia will be behind and at another point in time it will be the other way around.

This is why you only go on the cards that are out at the time and not what may or may not be in the future because you never know what will happen.

TBF in AMDs defense, Nvidia out of the blue decided to take the titan(business card) and make it available for consumers. No one saw this coming and the fact that AMD created a new architecture in 8 months to mass market is a very big feat. Not only do the newer cards compete but they also match the performance and surprass it(game dependent for both sides). AMD was late sure. But they came out strong and held their own and now are selling those cards like crazy whether it be for litcoin or gaming. Looked this morning and Nvidia's stock has fallen and AMD's is rising. So Kudos to AMD.

Next gen? 8xx cards will be great but i do not expect any wonders. I suspect every current card gets a bump down, eg 780-> 770 and a 770->760 etc. and then the top 780ti gets bumped down and a newer bigger chip takes over.

AMD on the other hand IMO has more to improve than Nvidia. They can improve their power consumption and add more tech to the cards(ex TrueAudio) and while the performance is bound to be on par with Nvidia, AMD may very well still be very competitive.

I would just like to point out since no one seems to have mentioned it yet, but this is not true and the stilt showed that it wasn't true within hours of this becoming news. Sorry guys.
