Alienware VS Custom pc

before i got into computers i bought an alienware. Don't ---> save urself money by building it , and customizing it and have fun building it and learn a lot about ur computer, and plus you wont be getting the bloatware, yes it does have just a bit of that, for the lights and security and stuff, but really if ur a part of this forum, custom all the way

Wait. What? We're still defending Dell-Alienware?

I don't think epic case is what I'll call the Alienware case, I think TTL's Thermaltacky fits them just fine. For a giant like Dell, with their OEM buying power; those prices get poo poo-ed upon by even Aria's pre-built systems. And this being Overclock3D, why would you want a dodgy BIOS that does not let you properly overclock your kit.

Like the 'H50' "watercooling" Dell uses, this is a do not touch.

Alienware is for n00bs, for the money they charge and for what you get they are a rip off If you want a good looking case buy one and build your own rig in it you will have a much better PC for cheaper and you will have learned how to build on as well. Anyone on a forum like this shouldn't even think about Alienware.

Here's a thought (or two): 3dfx made PC gaming fun. Alienware killed the image of PC gaming, i.e., everyone now thinks it costs a million dollars to have fun on a PC.

Almost 8 mins trying to open box

I couldn't help but laugh at that fool. This dweeb needs educated on PC hardware. We should should save him and send him the links to Toms youtube videos to talk some sense into this imbisil!

Right. I've been meaning to do this for a while now

Price - $1,449.00 free delivery & MD state tax. Let's do some working out.

1. Micro ATX Crossfire/SLI X58 board - $199 (closest comparisson).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...51&cm_re=micro_atx_x58-_-13-188-051-_-Product

1. Intel I7 920 - $200 min. Can't find any ATM, but the 930 is $250.

1. ATI Radeon 5870 - $359 (cheapest I could find)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125316&cm_re=5870-_-14-125-316-_-Product

1. 500 GB Seagate Baracuda - $54.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...5&cm_re=500gb_baracuda-_-22-148-395-_-Product

1. 3gb triple channel 1333mhz DDR3 - $72.99 again, cheapest I could find.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...0148245&cm_re=3gb_ddr3-_-20-148-245-_-Product

1. Corsair H50 (asetek, same as the Alienware has) - $79.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181010&Tpk=corsair h50

1. Windows 7 home premium - $180.93

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ws_7_home_premium_full-_-32-116-716-_-Product

1. 24X CD\DVDRW - $17.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...106289&cm_re=24x_dvdrq-_-27-106-289-_-Product

1. Expensive, solid case with a few fans and some lighting ETC. - $99.99. Now bear in mind that this is very basic compared to the Alienware, so I should be pricing in at least $200 for the AW case.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_re=silverstone_mid-_-11-163-058-_-Product

1.half decent keyboard and mouse - $18.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...6&cm_re=keyboard_mouse-_-23-575-006-_-Product

1. Gaming mouse mat - $14.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...cm_re=gaming_mouse_mat-_-26-999-070-_-Product

1. 750w PSU - $89.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...7182069&cm_re=750w_psu-_-17-182-069-_-Product

OK I don't think I missed anything. Now, that comes to $1388.85. That's without delivery or build or pretty much of anything. I could also add all of the extra fans into that (few 120mm etc) but I won't because there is no point. So by the time you add tax on Newegg for (example the state of MD 6%) which comes to 83.33. Add it up? $1472.18 without shipping.

Still think Alienware are expensive?

Spec out the Aurora ALX, On newegg, even tho Alienware uses retarded OEM shite. On newegg, (I valued there case at $200) so, with every on newegg it came out to about $1301, on alienware. $1999, so yes they are very overpriced but, that is where Ebay comes into play

Buying pre-built = smart and cost saving (sometimes) now some people will read this and think Ive lost it, well go out and make me a pc for less that the cheapest dell with windows you just can't, mid-range and high end you can. BUT then you have 0 after sales support which is what you pay for not the name, after-sales support from dell you cant really beat when building your own.

FYI, you can make a PC cheaper then Dell provide, always. Support? I wouldn't consider waiting 6 months for repairs "support". My mum knows shit all about computers (she still doesn't think Firefox is the internet, I had to change it's name to Internet) and even she was disgusted at how long it took them to repair her laptop.

You can't convince fanboys. In regards to his comment though, I actually made the exact same PC as the Aurora in AUS, and saved $1000. So, I'd definitely say Alienware are overpriced. On another note, nice cable management alienware, jk, it looks like it was done at the zoo.

Plain and simply put, All Custom Built PC's should never be the option. Just build it yourself. Now as far as Gaming Laptops go, Alienware has the strongest in the Market. Not only does the m18x have Dual GTX580's but if your an AMD fanboy, they are the first to get the new 6990m's. Not to mention now they only use the Killer N Wireless cards which are IMO extremely better then Intel for Wireless gaming. I plan to get the m18x with 2xGTX580m's, gonna role heads with it while in Starbucks playing Crysis 2 xD

Jesus christ are people still dragging over this?

Maybe you know, you should have actually read the thread. Somewhere in there the pros and cons of building your own were all there IIRC. These included, but were not limited to -

1. Getting one piece of dead hardware, not having a complete set of spares to rule it out and sending it all back and paying restocking fees.

2. Putting a single post in the wrong place (a common error) and shorting something out.

3. Not even knowing how to put a PC together.

And so on and so on.

And I do wish you would STFU with the fanboy term. Oh and learn how to punctuate.

Why hello there, Mr Happy. Long time no see

Yeah it's been a while. I'd change my username, but then you would probably have no idea who I am, much as I have no idea who you are now.

There are no pros and cons to Custom Pc's, it is so easy to build your own system and by buying from places with good return policies you will be fine with the hardware issues. WoW, really? Your number two reason is just ridicules, it does not sound like a common error as I have never heard of anyone doing something like that XD. Putting it simply, Building your own= Fun+Individuality+Saves the money
