Ugh. This has to be the worst feeling in the world :(

So today whilst doing some tweaking I let MSIliveupdate run and it put on a new bios. Sadly I didn't like the new bios so I wanted to go back to the one I was on before.

Went into bios itself and ran Mflash and told it where my bios image was. It found it OK and rebooted and started to erase the bios. Then the PC rebooted about 65% in and now it's completely dead.

Going to have to RMA the motherboard, what a total nightmare :( :(

Tell him live update fucked up your bios and your retailer is unwilling to help.

I sent a board to him on a saturday and a new one was back with me the following saturday.

Cost about 17 Euros to send to the netherlands.

I tried to return/replace with Amazon but it's being a knob. I have fired him an email over so hopefully I can get it sorted.

Boards with built-in M-Flash function - While this is a nice idea, at the moment we are seeing many cases of users using M-Flash to update their BIOS and having problems, so at present we don't recommend people use M-Flash either!

Apparently it's a long known fault. Just had a poke around the forum there and loads of people have had the same thing happen.

I wouldn't mind but I'm so broke right now it will probably be two weeks before I can even afford the bloody postage just to send it back.

Total bummer :(
 
Interesting; i've never had any issues with M Flash. The one issue I did have was when I tried to take a screenshot of the loading bar as it was flashing - it didn't like that at all. Thankfully, although the UEFI froze on me, I was able to flash the BIOS successfully after a reboot. A shame to hear that this has happened to you.

Yeah it was an odd one. Went in, found the image, rebooted.. 65% in it just switched off. Then it just sat powering on, then powering off, then on.... But that was pretty much it. Powered on for a split second then back off again and loop.

The bios I had on there this morning worked with a 106 bus. The 'update' it gave me refused to go to 106 or even 105 and I noticed that the bios options had changed. Very strange..

They should have a roll back option in case the new ones aren't stable.
 
M-Flash
Compared to common motherboard which need extra BIOS chips, MSI’s M-Flash has a double advantage which doesn’t need extra components and secondly, all your BIOS data will be saved in the USB drive. The stored data does not only have backup and upgrade function, moreover it can also be seen as a portable BIOS chip which is actually able to boot up your PC.

Not known MSI to do that before tbh was always a Gigabyte thing..

Had a look through the manual and it seems I'm screwed. Even though it says you can use a USB stick like a bios your original bios needs to be working in order to set it up. How stupid is that?

Go into broken bios - STOP
Set broken bios to boot from USB stick - STOP.

Because you can't because your main bios is bricked /facepalm.

Sorry to hear of your problems , I also thought maybe you could boot from a usb stick. You would think there would be some way to reflash the bios.
Good luck getting it all sorted out , I hope MSI can take care of this for you.
What version of bios were you trying to upgrade to?

*Note to self , don't upgrade to the new MSI bios*
 
I was using 2.9 which allowed me a 106 FSB. I was really super happy with the overclock as even though it was only around 350mhz it REALLY sorted out my minimum frame rates when using 8XMSAA. Only issue I had was the memory speed. I could set it to 1600mhz in bios and sometimes it would 'stick' and show in CPUZ as 800 (DDR of course so 1600) but within a couple of reboots it would revert back to 1333 which was peeing me off.

Then I went to MSI and saw version 2.A which stated -

- Update CPU Micro Code.
- Improved memory compatibility.

So of course I got excited thinking that not only could I clock my CPU FSB up and get the overclock I'd achieved before but also get the correct ram speed I of course wanted some of it..

Sadly I think when they said Update CPU Micro code they were talking strictly Ivybridge and I had the same issue before with an Asrock board (IE put on a late Ivy bios and it screwed my Xeon).

So I tried to roll it back within MSIliveupdate but there was no option to put an older one back on..

Off to bios with a USB stick with 2.9 on and ran Mflash. Rebooted, got to 65% erasing Eprom then just rebooted.

So yes mate, if you're happy with what you got don't upgrade it, especially if you're using a Sandy CPU as most of the later bioses are to jizz on Ivybridge :lol:
 
I have the GD65 and killed a bios through overclocking. I hit 5.2 ghz and lost stability, then couldn't even get into bios. I did cmos jumping and everything but it would never reset the clock speed.
After looking at many options I found no way to flash the bios.

I run on the second bios and have to be very careful when overclocking.
Could I rma this like op's
 
Yeah I'm definitely going to RMA back to MSI as it's a known fault so they can't really argue.

I wasn't overclocked when it died because I couldn't even get the FSB to 103 on the very latest bios.
 
Update. So right now I am playing tennis with Amazon and MSI. I'm disappointed.

Amazon is giving me a scripted message saying I can't return it as I have had it more than 30 days and MSI are giving me an automated reply telling me to go back to the reseller.

Great. Just as I needed them MSI decide to play the automated card :(
 
Posting on the forum usually results in a ban..

I've replied to their email telling them Amazon are refusing to take the board back so I'll see what happens next.

I'm just so gutted tbh. I had the Xeon overclocked and my frame rates (min) were absolutely incredible. I should have settled for 1333 ram hahaha.

Edit. Update !

MSI have already responded asking me for the serial number. I have replied, sending the receipt also.. Will keep updating as I go :)
