After CPU and Motherboard

Going to upgrade my current system and basically only need CPU and motherboard. I currently have this:

Intel Core i7 6800K
ASUS ROG STRIX X99 GAMING Motherboard

Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD32GX4M4A2666C15 32GB(4x8GB) 2666MHz DDR4
Corsair HX1000i 1000W Power Supply
Samsung 950 Pro M.2 512gb
Corsair Graphite 780T White ATX Case, Window,
Corsair Hydro Series H115i Liquid CPU Cooler

have an Arous 1080 ti on the way

Now i dont really need to upgrade but in the next month or so I will be......better wasting it here then on drugs, booze and girls:D

I guess Threadripper 1920X Processor is the maximun I will consider spending ( over A$1100 )but with the motherboards it is a bit expensive. So maybe an i7 7820X or even 7800X
Not to happy with my Strix mobo...so thinking may as well go Gigabyte and maybe the Aorus mobo to match my video card.

Have watched quite a few youtube vids and have read reviews and am not sure what to do. I like the idea of an AMD just to keep the competition with Intel going.

Mostly gaming ( iRacing ) and some videos using Power Director

If you don't need to upgrade then don't upgrade. I would wait and see what Intel do next, and then what AMD do to counter it. Now is a pretty bad time to be buying launch fresh CPUs.

Having said that you are displaying all of the symptoms of battered wife, so what I say probably won't make a gnat's chuffs worth of difference any way.

well its looking and seeing and listening and watching......I like the 299 Aorus 7 but I saw the comments on voltage by TinyTom so am still looking

yes.....am asking and trying to find something I like ......and will show my new Aorus 1080 ti video to advantage both in looks and peformace

the parts I am replacing will be going in an old PC which will give that a new bit of life

and no hurry but saying that I may order tomorrow

haha :D

The only thing that makes sense is going ridiculous. So Threadripper, basically.

Buying a CPU with two more cores and two more threads for that kind of investment (7820X) is nuts tbh. The 7800x is just a complete side grade. Sure, you will get better clocks but you will notice none of that in terms of performance.

Both of those Intels are incremental upgrades, though, especially considering what you have already.

If you want more cores going into the future then go all out and go Threadripper. I can't see Intel coming anywhere close price wise and 12 or 16 cores will hold you for years.

Coffee Lake is max 6 cores right? or are there 8 core variants coming too? again that just sounds like a side grade to me.

If it's for Iracing then it is already Overkill. My R5 1600 @3.6 Ghz and R9 Nano run that game at a steady 120fps. I have the FPS limiter on too. Although I would like Iracing or Assetto Corsa added to a reviewers line up of games for hardware as no one I have seen does sim racing games. hint hint Tom :-)

Wait till the Coffee lake Reviews are out....

Till then, enjoy your GPU ;)

saw your youtube vid and you just dont realise how massive that card is..........

btw: did a 3d mark on old card...put in new card and did another 3d mark and it was a 30% increase in graphics

overkill ...yes, but the fps at the Nurb GP home straight is a bottleneck caused by the CPU so they are saying and thats enough for me=00=

Like I said i do some video editing and some other as well ............. but will be waiting until coffee reviews are out ...thankfully have an excellent coffee machine :o
