Advice for my future build?

I'm hoping to get my second ever rig bought and built in January 2014. Here's what I'm aiming for:

Case: NZXT Phantom 530 (white)
Processor: Intel Core i7-4770k
Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z87
RAM: 16GB (2x8GB Kit) DDR3 or 4, recommendations please.
GPU: GTX 780 Ti (whatever's best at the time)
Secondary GPU: (to be added later in 2014)
SSD: Kingston HyperX 3k 240gb or OCZ Vertek 4 256GB or Samsung 840 Series Pro 256GB
Primary HDD: WD Caviar Black 1-2TB
Second HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB secondary from current PC
PSU: Corsair AX850

Firstly, if you could change anything, what would you do? PC is primarily for gaming (5760x1080 @60Ghz, three monitors), with some editing/rendering on the side (my reasoning for going Haswell over Ivy-E).

Secondly, should I be looking at picking up extra fans or something for the Phantom 530? What would you recommend? I'm planning on OC'ing the CPU to hopefully 4-4.3GHz on air cooling.

Finally, the 530 isn't a show-offy as some other cases. I have no knowledge of lighting. Should I pick up some lighting solutions to give it a bit of life, if so, what would you recommend?

Thanks, good to be here! <3

For the SSD Samsung Pro or Evo, Ram DDR3 Corsair Pro or Plats, maybe some NZXT white led lighting strips, rest sounds ok to me and Welcome!!

is that Dominator Platinum? I don't know much about RAM, but I've heard that it's good.

Do lighting strips take much setting up?

yes dominator plat is what he means. or vengeance pro

lighting strips are kinda like fans. mount them and plug them in

go with a samsung ssd as said before, and maybe switch the PSU to a RM

Ah good to know, sorry I'm a noob! :p

What's the benefit to Dominators over Vengeance other than looks? As for PSU, any particular reasoning?

they just tend to perform very well and are reliable. you also get that awesome corsair support we got here on the forum.

nothing wrong with the AX, but the RM series is newer and very quiet

Sounds good to me, would 1600 MHz be sufficient or should I aim higher?

Thanks for the tip on RM. Is it fully modular? So basically just an AX850 but more silent?

1600MHz is fine but if you can fit 2133 in your budged, go for it
we're hopefully gonna see a difference in games, Bf4 is supposed to benefit from faster RAM. rendering also does, as you said you want to do some editing

yes pretty much that, fully modular

Well I'm aiming to future proof so I'll definitely go for the 2133. Thanks for your help. Any knowledge to share on the 780Ti? What's the best value for money on the market atm, or is it mostly brand preference?

afaik you can only get the 780ti with the stock cooler right now. awesome as it is i'd wait for aftermarket ones. and then it's a lot of preference regarding colour etc.

Ah I see. Well, I'm not buying anything till January so I guess that gives a little bit of time to wait and see what comes up. Getting excited now. Thanks for all your help.

Hi there...can i join with my specs?
What do you think?

MoBo:Asus Maximus VI Hero
CPU:i5 4670k+Thermaltake Frio OCK
GPU:Asus GTX 770 2GB DirectCUII OC
PSU:XFX 750w 80+
RAM:G Skill RipJaws-X cl9 kit 8GB 1600Mhz 1,50V
SSD:Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2,5'' SATA3
HDD:WD Green 1TB
CASE:CM 920 II advanced

Also consider an Asus soundcard for your build as your gaming will really benefit over on board sound Eg. D2X or STX, also if you go with a current 780Ti there is nothing wrong with the stock cooler it runs cool and quite also noticed you haven't picked a CPU cooler can recommend the H100i for that job

Going for a Havik 140 to match everything and I'm nervous around liquid.

Thanks for reminding me about a sound card! Completely forgot :)

I had a Havok 140 before the H100i and it's a great cooler but the H100i is better and they are very good and reliable and Corsair's warranty is second to none and if you watch Tom's vid's all he uses now is the H100i and if it did leak Corsair will cover anything that gets damaged by it so you don't need to worry

If you are going with Dominator Plat that's a good choice. I would recommend just going with 4 4g modules (16g) if you are only going to be gaming with it. Really don't not need more than 8g that so I would say just fill those slots with 4 and let it ride.

What's the benefit of 4 x 4GB over 2 x 8GB?

Depending on the retailer the prices may be different for 4x4 vs 2x8 but otherwise the less ram modules you have the less strain you put on the IMC(internal memory controller) which usually does help you get a higher overclock. Plus with 2x8 modules you can add more later in case you need it.
However 4x4 do look better imo :D
