About to format soon..

Ok this time I'm avoiding all this crap im getting now. Gonna make an image soon as i got the basics. What programs should I keep to, settings to change etc. to get the best performance for the longest period possible for the "ultimate gaming machine "

Could you all list any necessary apps, such as NOD32 and ccleaner that I should make an image of...also stuff to get afterwards to keep in top condition like registry mechanic? I have seen the list of appz etc. to get but I'm not sure which I would need to get for what I want to achieve.

I use NOD32, Ad Aware Se, CCleaner, firefox, thunderbird, and object dock to name a few apps

Kinda off topic. But when you reformat the drive do a long format not "Quick".

Just helps to clean stuff.. Whiping the slate clean, you know!

I did mine a few weeks ago and have tried to keep to the minimum.I instantly went msconfig and turned off as many windows stuff as poss and everything I put on I check to make sure its not starting on start.But still got a PC full of crap.Best of luck.

I run,

zone alarm and sod all else on startup.

cc cleaner spybot and avg once a week or after being on any iffy sites.

reg mech once a week to keep the crap clear along with reg cleaner.

AV wise, nod 32 is a pretty good choice! I dont use anything spyware killers etc. I test now and again just to see if i have anything, which i dont. I just stay clear of dodgy looking emails/websites etc.

I tend to be a bit iffy about 3rd party tools that promise to keep your computer running well. So i dont use any of them. I've always tried to keep as little programs installed as possible.

2.7 all updated...Ok ill keep away from stuff such as tuneup utilities then. How about diskeeper considering it doesnt seem to be the cause of this trouble?

Yeah

Turd party system boost tools can be a bit dodgy, specially the ones that do things automatically.
