A quick question about F@H

I heard about this from Tom on his latest sub video. Read the FAQ and as soon as it mentioned it's purpose I installed it and began running the program.

My question is that when I run the program I high pitched whinning noise emanates from my computer. I know it's this program because when I pause it, it stops. When I resume it, it resumes. Should I be concerened or is this just cause by the nature of the program?

Also I run RealTemp GT to monitor my computers temps and CPU usage. The website said that it runs in the back ground and I shouldn't notice it. Does it just take up all the computing power not being used or would this legitamatly hinder, say, vid rendering?

Not sure if i can post links to other forums here?

It's called capacitor squeal if you want to look that up. Google 'cap whine' and the first result should help

While that did answer what was causing it, is it a risk? Could I blow a capacitor or damage my graphics cards? I'm a student and don't have the money atm to replace either of my 570's

Nah it's completely normal dont worry.

Tbf, regardless of whether it was harmful or not, I wouldnt want my cards making that noise. Just wouldnt sound right to me

This is the first time it's happened. Since I only plan to have F2H running while I'm at school it won't bother me. While I'm at home I'll just turn it off when I'm using my comp for working purposes. Thanks for the responses. Settled my nerves

As the coil whine has ben dealt with I will leave that part and move onto your last qustion.

The folding at home client runs at a low priority, as a long as video rendering is set at a higher priority it won't be effected much, I imagion there will be some small effect but folding at home wont be fighting to rob cpu cycles from other applications.

It will take up some ram so if you are trying to run a task that uses almost all of your ram then that could cause some performance degridation. At the end of they day common sence is the key really, but certainly if your word processing or anything of the sort you should't really notice the folding running in the background.
