A heads up for the Big-adv folders

Ok guys, two things..

Stanford is currently not sending out any -bigadv projects.

They are going to upgrade the server working with the -bigadv, and they can't have any open projects for that.

If you are now folding -bigadv be sure to check if it is still running, if it's in an endless loop of doing nothing you will have to revert back to SMP WU's manually. Note: this should happen automatically, but may not happen.

The 2nd thing:

There will be new -bigadv projects coming, however these will have larger requirements than the current -bigadv WU's (8 Cores (reported by OS), 0.5-1GB of RAM per core).

These new projects will require:

- 12 Cores

- 4GB of RAM

The new projects will be run on Linux 64bit only, or at least at the start.

they will use the 'new-ish' FahCore_A5.

and the current points info:

Base points: 30964

Deadline: 17 days

Preferred deadline: 10.2 days

k-factor: 26.86

However these are still in the Public Beta phase(open to anyone in the foldingforum.org Beta team) so it is subject to change.

Thanks the info m8

Hope they come online soon.Or some of us with, Big Adv folding rigs will drop in ppd

yup, they want to have all open WU's back in before upgrading, so people don't get upset by not being able to upload the results (and losing points because of it)

So it should be a couple of days. a guestimate... maximum deadline of a 268X WU plus one day.

do note that the 2nd reference to the servers in that thread (129.74.85.15 and 129.74.85.16) will not affect the -Bigadv folders. They are one of many classic/uniprocessor Work server.

So I can't use more than 8 cores in VMware to get folding going on Linux. It may be worth dual booting though because it seems people are seeing some ridiculous ppd on the new bigbeta units. We're talking 330k ppd on dual hex SR 2 machines (compared to 200k ppd on the regular bigadv) and over 600k ppd on those 48 core magny cours AMD monsters.

How does one opt in to the new 12Core+ BigAdv?

EDIT: Also.. VMWare Player 3.0 Mirror (Filehippo.com) -- Make sure you click on version 3.0.0 under old versions then click Download. This lets you use more cores in a VM.

You need to run 64 bit Linux and use the -bigbeta flag instead of -bigadv. That and have 12+ cores (6 cores + hyperthreading counts). This will give you the 6903 units that are giving mad ppd. I have to say I'm very tempted to pull the trigger on an SR 2 and another hex right now...I just don't know where I'd put it

Ubuntu 11.04 atm, Live CD and then just downloaded and installed FAH 6.34.

I've got it on these new unannounced rigs as I may as well give them a good test run..

EDIT: 190K PPD.. 434K Total Points!!!!!

I haven't seen a official notice on the server status, but obviously they are working again

About the new WU's, they are indead released in the Public beta stage for the Beta members on the forum.

As they are Beta WU don't expect everything to work properly. Points can be lost due to unforseen server errors and al kinds of other bugs.

Don't expect the points to stay the same, they can be edited in the server code anytime (on new WU's that is, old ones don't get recredited).

Also, the requirements for the WU's have changed, a minimum of 4 GB RAM is required (as if there were -bigadv rigs without it..

).

Good luck on raking in the points on these ones guys
