8800GTX or Hold out?!?

I've been offered a brand new BFG 8800GTX for significantly less than other retailers are selling them for.

My question is whether this is the right time to buy it, or wait a while. I understand prices are due to drop in July, and that the next range of new cards will be here around xmas.

What should I do?!?!?!

Oh, and the card is £280 delivered

£280 thats nearly £100 off, i say buy it, they are ment to be very good. Un fortunatly i couldnt afford one, i went for gts 640.

Lucky you!!!

Rob

Get it. Even if G90 comes around christmas, it`s quite possible it`ll take a number of driver releases b4 it`s stable/realized/whatever.

Couple that with a spanking price, a truely awesome card, I don`t see a flat £100 coming off them in a month.

I'd wait. Seems to me that this current generation is one to skip if you have a 7800gt or better.

Ur kidding right? The 8800 series far outperforms the 7800, 7900 and X1800, x1900 series.

I spose you could look at it as first gen but tis good first gen in all fairness

I think Ryan is getting at the fact 78/7900 x18/x1900 can handle most games at a decent res - with the G92 coming in 6 months... Hang on.

OK I convinced myself. £280 for a GTX for 6 months is worth it. You can always sell it (at hardly any loss) if you feel the need to grab a G92 come November

Guys I might be a bit late here but I would definately go for it at that price... Im glad I saw this thread... Can I have your help guys.... there are 40+ GTX cards up for grabs at £290.00 EX VAT and I was just deciding whether or not to go for one for a system Im planning on building... if not then I have another offer to go down to a GTS 640mb for £190.00 of which there are 30+ WHICH ONE SHOULD I GO FOR.....

see the thing is... im planning on building a system... with an EQS motherboard.

its the AMD690G chipset... has ON BOARD HDMI.. so i was hoping to use that to connect to a TV so i could sit further away from the screen with a wirless keyboard and mouse.... am i better to connect using any other connection???? i guess it all depends on the TV i get....

Well it's arrived already! I'm going to install it now, but I still can't get over the size of this monster :o

Looking at the card sideways, I notice the thermal compound they use is like a putty. There seems to be lots of it too! Wonder what this stuff is actually like!

Where did you get it for that price?

BEAST!

I regret getting the gts and not the gtx already!

Buy yourself something nice with the £100 you saved and you wont tbh. 4GB perhaps?

Just run 3dmark 06 on 158.22 drivers at stock speed and I'm getting 9044 marks. I definately think my CPU is holding this beast back. Still have to OC the card, but I'm a bit worried about the temps
