8800GTX or HD4870

Ok without looking at reviews or anything am I correct in thinking that the 4870 is the much better card?

Just after a quick answer really.

Reason being is that the GTX280 has sold so I really need to package it up tonight and my GTX295 is back at Ebuyer being tested for RMA.

A bloke from work has lent me both his 8800GTX and 4870. I spose If I went with the GTX, I wouldn't have to change drivers. On the other hand I know for a fact that the ATI cards work with my bodged audio solution when SPDIF passthrough isn't available.

The 4870 is the better card on all platforms if you ask me. It also works with your "bodged" audio set up. For me, that would be the winner. A more poweful card and works with your existing audio set up, go for it!

I think I will go with the 4870 as I'm probably gonna do a fresh install soon anyway so driver conflict wont be an issue.

I love my 4870. Glad I chose to go with this card over anything else for the price.

For the next video card upgrade I will see how far along ati/nvidia are with each of their physx crap and chose my card from their as it should be more main stream by then in a lot of games.
