7870 Crossfire vs 7970

Hi All,
As you can probably tell from the title, I was wondering wether a single 7970 (maybe OC) would be better than two 7870s running in crossfire, keeping future proofing in mind as well. Thanks! :)

best advice is always go with the best single card solution you can. This allows for adding another later if needed/wanted for future proofing. I still run flashed 6950's in xfire have seen no real reason for a need to upgrade.

I'd overclock a 7950 as a third option.

The 7850s would be quicker but you have to know what you are getting into when you choose 2 cards over one.

Would a 7970 OC'd to the maximum possible stable be better than a 670 OC'd to the maximum possible? because i heard that the 7970 overclocks brilliantly and even gives the 680 a run for its money.

If you overclock a 7950, 7970, 670 & 680 then they are all roughly the same.

However it is very dependent on which game you play, which drivers the chips are tested with and the silicon lottery.
