770 or 7970

Hi guys, my 7850 is starting to come up a bit short when playing arma 3. Was thinking about getting the 760 but I think I want to spend a bit more and get the 770 or the 7970.

What would you guys recommend. The 7970 seems to be ever so slightly cheaper and comes with some games.

Just to let you know I will NOT be overclocking so its need to be out the box fast.

Cheers guys.

GTX 780. Seriously, both of the cards you're looking at are good cards, but for me, when you start reaching £300+ for a GPU, might as well spend a bit more and get a ludicrous speed card.

7970
+ cheaper
+ free games
+ decent speeds Out of Box
+ Brilliant at overclocking

770
+ Been upgraded
+ plenty of options
- suffers from all the draw backs of the 680
- no free games
- doesn't overclock as well as the 7970 (IE from what you get out of the box to what you end up with)

I suggest you reconsider on overclocking most GPU's come overclocked and with the touch of a button you can get a bit more juice out of them, I sometimes get frame rate increases by about %10+ on just a slight OC. All on air, on a 660TI so it's nothing special.

My suggestion is get a MSI TF 7970 or something on par. Bit more than a bottom of the line 7970, nice aftermarket cooler, MSI have some good support etc.

I however will be spending the extra money for a 780.

Go for 7970 mate, if you really want new gen nvidia gpu than save up a little bit more and go for 780, as that will be better upgrade for you.
But 7970 with some decent overclock will do you just fine as well:)

These are the OVERCLOCK3D forums mate, we're all overclockers :P

I'd also say 7970, But a good one like Twin Frozer or Royal King :)

TF 3 on my 7950 can keep everything cool(i run V-snyc so it doesn't max out the gpu) and noitceably loud. However it's easy to tune out when volume is turned up to normal levels. A 7970 will run hotter and therefore louder. But it should not be a big deal.

i agree, Amd will have the advantage on games for a while anyway, but if you just want ... in the words of jezza "POWER!" then save for a 780 rather than going for a 770 i just got a 780 and am very happy with it!, the 770 is a great card though i have seen one in use and it works really well, and of course we have all read about the greatness of the RED team

Ahhhh Club 3d. If you ever seen Toms reviews on those cards you will know they are some of the best overclocking cards on the market. A 7950 overclocked so far that it caught up to a 680(at the time) and was ever so slightly slower. Highly recommend them. Only bad thing is that they aren't sold in the US and sold in Europe/UK only:(

I'd say get the 7970 royalAce or the GTX 770 Lightning. Both are very fast out of the box. The 7970 is a bit cheaper and depending on where you buy it you'll get a free game or two with it.
