60fps = hax

This vid just angered me listening to his mindless rants and moaning about 30fps being unacceptable (i'll come back to that) but his complaints about the game being buggy at 60 then 120fps :o shock horror you played with the command line parameters and now it's unplayable, well colour me pink with a feather up my arse!.
The game was layed out and optimised to run at 30fps by EA deal with it, pretty sure EA know what they are doing.
The human eye registers perfect image motion at 24 - 25fps, so 30fps should be more than enough for a comfortable gaming experience.

errrrrr,the devs said it would NOT be locked at 30fps at E3,so they have flat out failed/lied.

Dont start that eyes cant see more than......... thing,that will cause a HUGE arguement

I understand that but I never take reps or devs at their word.. as for the eye thing not wanting to start a riot just pointing out the perfect registered motion that's all. :)

It's not your eyes that are the problem it's how your brain interprets the images it is seeing. Lower FPS means your brain works harder and you get more image blur because of the lower frame rate.

Basically your brain is trying to make sense of what is happening between the images it sees. So what it does is blur between the images to give the impression that you see movement. Now this is fine if your not concentrating hard on something or sitting very close to the screen. This is why consoles can get away with lower FPS. Problems arise when your closer to the screen as in PC gaming and when your concentrating very hard at something very close to you. While you still see the images as movement you the movement wont be smooth. This is why most people will say playing at 60FPS as apposed to 30 FPS feels nicer and more enjoyable.

I have played the latest NFS at 30FPS and after 20 mins I was starting to get a headache.

You also have to put into this discussion inputs because this will have an effect on you too while gaming. At lower FPS you get very slight input lag or negative mouse acceleration. This has a weird effect on you too. Because it messes with your hand to eye co-ordination. Take for example you play at 120 FPS regularly and you get used to how your mouse moves and reacts at that FPS. The muscles in your hand become used to this movement and so does your brain when it relates those movements to what your eyes see. Problems arise when you play at a framerate that interferes with this like when you go and play a shooter at 30FPS you feel input lag which makes your gaming experience feel awful. This can also make you feel nauseous if its extreme because you cannot relate what your hand is doing to what you are seeing.

This is why professional FPS players like CS players would try and get the smoothest frames they could. This is why they played often with frame rates in excess of 200FPS. It wasn't because they could see more but rather if or when your frame rate would drop it would drop to a frame rate that was still high enough so that you wouldn't notice micro stuttering, movement blur or input lag. There are other factors too why they play at such high framerates but I won't go into that here.

So while yes you are correct in saying we see movement at 24FPS you have got to remember that that movement wont be as smooth as lets say 60FPS and you also got to remember the difference in the situations. That is why movies at 24 FPS are fine to watch but games at 24 FPS are not so.

^ THIS! its more about the feel of the game rather than how you see it.
