So insted of getting a second 5870 i was thinking i would get a 5970 sense it seems you can xfire a 5870 and a 5970. and i got a nice $800 gift card through amazon! what is all i need to do in order to make this work.

Tell me if i am missing something?: keep current 5870 driver and download 5970 driver then enable xfire in CCC. correct?

For $800 you could grab 2 GTX 570s.... just a thought =P

there is a lot i can buy

but i already have one 5870.

You will have to run the faster card as if it was the slower one, so it's not worth it. Two 570's however....

Don't quote me on this but I am actually fairly sure that 2 GTX 570s performs as well if not better than a 5970 and 5870 would. Especially in DX11 games, but you know its just an idea. Performance would still be good with a 5970 and 5870.

I would have to download a modded driver in order to get that to work anyways. i have an AMD board 790fx chipset. ASUS crosshair formula iii

I didn't bother looking at your MB, sorry about that. I would still recommend getting 2 6970s instead of a last gen card. The 5870s are good but the 6970's will give a lot more performance in DX11 and will perform better in most cases.

People keep talking about DC11 but there are so many angry articles talking about how nobody is using DX10 to it's fullest nevermind 11. last gen cards still seem perfectly viable option, although i'd take the 5970 over xfire less issues from what I'v read

How would the clocks on my 5870 clock themselves? would my 5870 downclock it self to the 5970 speeds? i thought the cores in the 5970 were the same as that in the 5870 just clocked lower. the reason i ask is because it makes no sense. i remember when i had 2 5770s i could have one at a higher clock than the other via msi afterburner. why cant the same apply to this?
