4770K Overclocking issues (Keep getting BSODS)

Hmm you really think its a faulty CPU? Dont know how to RMA it (Im from sweden and bought this from a swedish store). Can you really complain that its not overclocking as wanted to get a new one?

I dont see any wierd temps assuming that the cpu cooler should be a problem. The bsods has come during normal load temps. And bsod code is 124 that gives hint to "more voltage please".

Exactly. Referring to the cooler since you can up the voltage a bit if it's running at lower temps :)

But what is a faulty cpu? What should I say? If the cpu is running on stock, they will never take it back from the store?

The store said they are not going to take anything back since I have overclocked inte, therefore the warranty is ruined.

What? That's ridiculous. You're not voiding your warranty when overclocking! Intel's warranty, that is. Not sure how your shop handles it, but that would then mean you'd have to send it over to Intel to take a look at..
Also, since it runs fine on stock it's very difficult to get an RMA indeed. I really don't know what to do at this point..

I hate lottery, I always loose. I am asking Intel support in chat right now. But they havent respond yet. And if RMA, that may take weeks I guess. And weeks without my computer isnt an option :p

Ill guess I have to be saticfied with 4.2Ghz...I should have kept my sandy bridge on 4.7 instead : /

I understand, can't imagine a day without my pc :p

Which Sandy-bridge did you have before?

I had i 2500K before. But bought myself a whole new system = )
But I must say Im a bit down now with the bad performance for haswell OC

I can imagine. I think 2500k at 4.7ghz would give you better performance too, depending on what you are using it for. The haswell is a power-saver though.. I feel bad for you! :(
I hope TTL sees this thread and can give you advice.

Thanks M8! I appriciate that :)

Btw: @ Crazy Teeka, you mentioned LLC to set at High? Im having 1-10 on Load Line Calibration, so whats "high"? I have tryed 5 now.

I think 'high' would equal the max. Since it's calibration it won't damage anything so it's worth a try putting it on 10.

Ok, will try it at 8, it was 1-8 (not 10 as max).

The x264 is running without problems, so I will check tomorrow when playing Gw2 again. Just frustrating that I cannot even reach 4400Mhz.

Now its hockey and after that Liverpool game, so perfect for stress testing!

Some Haswell chips are just pigs, looks like you've been screwed by the Silicon gods :l. What thermal paste did you use and how much thermal paste did you put on?

Yes, seems so! Damn Silicon Gods! - Wouldnt argue if some silicon goddess screwed me instead. lol.

I have the arctic silver 5, and hmm, how much, cant say. But temps are looking good? Do you think that it can have anything with thermal paste anyway?

Its a slight chance :l.
The silicon lottery (or gods) is always a gamble, some win and some loose. Sadly your cpu is behaving fine at stock so I don't think intel would accept a RMA.

No they didnt, I talked to Intel support (chat). So no way to get a RMA there.

But if someone can find anything useful Ill gladly take tips.
Btw: Tryed now just to be sure; 1.33v @ 4.4 caused Bsod after 5min in x264.

What do you guys think of voltage? Can I crank it up more then 1.3 on air if having temps under 80 while stress testing?

And there is a huge difference in stress testing programs, OCCT gave me higher values, same with prime.

Phanteks PH TC14PE

Idle temps at 25 degrees, and these temps I havent seen with prime or x264 before. Usually stable at max 80-82 under full load, most often around 75 degrees. Now I hit 90 after 25min OCCT.
Sorry for all edits, the 90 was not nocited for me, only looked at max temp. When I looked the temps was always aroun 70-82.

There's your problem, cannot really OC that much on air, you could try an AIO cooler like the H100i or go DIY water cooling. ^_^

Hmm I dont agree there ; ),
I should be able to get past 4.3Ghz even with air, specially with a good air cpu cooler which phantek is. I think its pretty normal to go with air up to 4.6-4.7 at least, maybe after that you can consider water.

No, you can easily get similar clocks on air if you know what you are doing. I've done a build with a 9590 (yes the overpriced AMD chip) using a Phanteks PH-TC14PE and it was absolutely fine. The temperatures aren't far off from a h100i. The TC14 is about the same performance as the Noctua in this graph.

Personally, I'd still try a H100i, give it a go. ^_^
