3200+ sckt 754 mobile multi issues

Heres one for you guys. I curently have 3 mobile 3200+ cpus that for somereason get a checksum error in bios when set at the rated multi of 10x200. Now How do I knwo that its not the mobo? Easy. I have a mobile 3200+ that will do 10x200 without a issue.

Now the ones that seem to have problems have no problems loading windows when the multi is set to auto in bios....the thing is the multi then is 4x200. I have played with one a bit.... all the lower multis like 4, 5 , and 6 will do fine. I decided to try 9 and 8 also but that got a checksum error as well. WTF i have NEVER seen this in my days of working on comps. Any ideas?

change ram speed to ddr333 and then try with 10x

As Dave suggested, the memory controllers might be fubarred on the other chips.

Isn't a checksum error like when you clear your CMOS, and your board's like WTF?

The mobo could have a dead CMOS battery.

Yea, it can happen if you kill the power at a cirtain stage in booting or restart during post

Never had that, but I remember on my old Soyo AXP board, it'd say that at boot every time. I replaced my CMOS battery, and it was fine.

You might want to try flashing to the newest BIOS too...

the bios is the newest out there which is f18.

Also If the battery was dead, wouldnt that also mean that even with the multi at the lower end ( like i said I could do x5 and x6 and it boots fine without a checksum error. ) I would get that error also. It is just at the higher multis where is doesnt work. I am puzzled when one cpu works fine and yet another does not. Could it be possible that the core is cracked? I would alsomt thing if the core was cracked that the cpu would just flat out not work

If the core was cracked it would not work, but chipped... possibly.

Does it pass Prime95 stability tests? If so, just ignore it. Honestly, if it's stable, who cares? I'm 90% sure it's a mobo issue.

had a few cases where processors that are physically fine have not worked, guessing due to static or something. the symptoms are what you are describing, everything powers up.........but no beep

Yeah I ended up torching my godlike 3000+ one night trying to get it to go past 2.8ghz, rofl that was a sad sad night But what you are describing sounds about exactly what my system did once the chip got fried.

but would it work thats what i dont get. If i do Anything in bios it then returns with a checksum error.... but if I do F1 during post just go into booting then it runs fine afterwards. It sets the multi at 4.so I have 2x 3200+ that are only 800 mhz

Is there a software program i can use to change the multi? Easytune wont let me

Okay guys I have seemed to figure out that it may indeed be an bios issue ... coming to this conculsion because of this:

I was trouble shooting this problem with a buddy of mine who had just last week the same exact problem i have. We discovered this really great program from oversoft called "osci" Its like cpuz but has alot more in it. Included in this is a multi minipulator in which you can change the multi up to the rated speed. We did this and sure enough, it ran fine at the 10x200 settings. Now ocing in bios will be not happening due to the fact that it seems to reset every time you go into it.... even if you dont change anything. But this is a great software thinggy and i am sure surprised that not more people are using this.

Now with this thinking that the bios may indeed be bad, how do i find an older bios....let alone flash it back? I only have used the software flashing utility that comes with the mobos to flash bios and have never done it with a floppy before
