£300 gamer build, will this do it?

I know the brand, but I don't think that it's well received on these forums.
Don't get Tom started on them, haha.

Oh, Ive been so happy with my 750W modular, although thats their Toughpower series. I dont hope they did a poor job with their lower watt series.

Does anyone believe a HD6870 might become a bottleneck in the system with the G860? I really dont know how high-end that card is and whether or not the G860 can follow up with it.

The GPU is the last part im missing, the rest I have ordered. I will however order the HD6870 right away if no one believes its gonna bottleneck.

If it did bottleneck I doubt it would be that much at all, I currently have a G840 which is only clocked at 2.8ghz and I have a 5870 which is a little bit better that a 6870 and I do get a slight bottleneck so with a better cpu and a slightly worse gpu I doubt you would be getting to much of a bottleneck

Awesome, thanks for the info!

Bumping this thread with a question.

Im visiting GF on monday and will probs start building tuesday or wednesday. However she just made me aware of the fact that it doesnt have wifi (I forgot she used to use her laptop with wifi). Now, im unsure on whether to get a wifi receiver or a very long cable...

Shes gonna use her pc for Guild Wars 2, so will wifi be stable enough for a big mmo? Ive never really played games on a wifi connection, so I dont know how well it performs. The router is a standard one from Sky, and is in the room below her.

IMO there really isn't much of a difference at all between ethernet and wifi. I use wifi and I have never had any problems due to the wifi. However I would still suggest using a cable

If you can't comfortably and cleanly route the cable, definitely use power-line adapters (and still use Ethernet cables on those). Maybe it's just my fighting game background but the thought of playing games over WiFi makes me physically ill.

+1 to that :)

Hello everybody.

I have just finished placing the motherboard onto the tray and screwed it in place. The PSU is still loose outside the case, but I have connected the cables and I turned it on and it worked. (I have already installed cpu, gpu and ram)

The first message I got was "CPU or memory changed. F1 to setup or F2 for default values and continue". I clicked F2, and it took me into Bios where I can also confirm it recognizes the CPU and RAM.

Now my question is, when I turn the PC on it goes straight to bios, is this supposed to happen when I don't have HD connected? Also, am I supposed to install the disc that came with the motherboard (drivers) before I install OS? Like said, all I have right now is the bios screen.

Let me know if there are some must to do.

Install the OS first - then download the most up to date drivers from the internet (probably from a different computer) as the ones on the disk will be outdated

Is it necessary? I mean if the OS works with current bios drivers, why update? From what I know theres a risk with installing new bios drivers (making mobo not working)

New BIOS can improve performance, add features etc. Nobody just puts out updates without a good reason to do so. If there were any problems with it, it would be widely reported very quickly.

Exactly!

Also, how can you build a computer with the mentality of not going the extra step to tinker and play with things? :)

The computer is done and up and running. Right now im installing all the stuff she needs for her games (directx, c++ redistributable, drivers etc. etc.)

The last part is antivirus. I have decided to go with Msoft Security Essentials as it is free and many gives a good feedback. However I also need a firewall, where I have decided Comodo Firewall. But, Comodo Firewall also installs Defense+, and I cant figure out from reading online whether or not this is considered an antivirus, and whether or not it works along another antivirus.

Should I install Defense+ along MSE?

Apparently defence+ notifies you of everything every piece of software is doing regarding your internet connection and gets really irritating. There's a guide on how to get round it here;

http://forum.raymond.cc/tutorials/11420-comodo-firewall-tutorial.html

BTW, I'm pretty sure MSE has a firewall included?

From what I know the MSE Firewall is just the regular Windows Firewall, as when I went through installation there was a checkbox for "Enable Windows Firewall if disabled".

Isnt that guide just for the firewall, and not defense+? Theyre two seperate things, and I dont want defense+ if its gonna interfere with MSE, however I read it has a sandbox feature which I find really nice, but I still cant figure out if its considered a standalone antivirus.
