[NOOB] Replacement NAS - First Time Build

Hey Guys,

I'm looking to replace my Netgear Sotra NAS with something more flexible, something I can expand over time.

The main use I guess would be streaming SD & HD films, TV Shows and Music. It would also act as a file storage and I guess backup storage of my 2 Macs, external access would be great too.

Also another reason is, I just want to build something

I been looking around on OC3D and trolling the net and have come up with some spec, now I feel as if I have let myself get out of control and using components that will be wasted in this machine.

As I have only been looking into self build a few days I'm still completely clueless. I have no idea if I'm going to need extra cables and fans, ect.

Please be brutal, I know as much in self build as I do in quantum psychics.... atm.

I built my own in a SFF Silverstone case, AMD X2, 4GB RAM etc. If I were to build today I'd probably go with an HP Microserver. Mine is used for file storage and streaming, so I don't need much power.

Edit: The specs you picked will be more than fine for what you want to do. You really don't need that much RAM, but it's so cheap now it doesn't hurt.

Yeah I've heard good things about the HP Microservers as well. They were doing a £100 cashback at one point as well.
