New Memory for Coffee Lake

I have ordered the MSI pro carbon Z370 and will be getting the 8700k if they ever come into stock. (only for gaming, but going I7 anyway for futureproofing as much as possible)

But I am having trouble selecting ram.

I was planning on buying 3200mhz corsair LPX but MSI does not list it on the QVL.

In fact, they do not list any 3200MHZ ram on the QVL...

I am sure it would probably be fine, but after the last fiasco with the failed Ryzen build I want to be cautious,

The thing is tho, Is there any point in going for fast ram for gaming. or should I just go for 2666?

kinda like the look of

Nah you can pretty much ignore the QVL, especially for recently released stuff; the QVL will grow and only lists those specific kits the vendor has tested. Tip: get the lowest CAS you can get (e.g. CL14). Take 3200 as the minimum, which is also the sweet spot. 2666 is way too low and you'll lose out.

Ok. Thank you for the advice.

I have ordered
G.SKILL F4-3200C14D-16GTZ Trident Z Series 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz CL14 1.35 V Memory Kit

Not exactly cheap. But neither is an I7 build!!

Very nice set, and the one I wish I'd bought in fact. Enjoy man! All memory is expensive but with that brand and that series you get the world's best memory chips = worth it!!

It will be a snug fit against my NHD-14. Worse case scenario I can trim a couple of fins with the dremmel.
I still don’t like the idea of an AIO cooler. Even if they look good.

I just don't feel good adding a point of failure. Will an AIO give 5+ years of trouble free extremely quiet cooling?
Not that I have the budget for that for a little while anyway.

Hmm. considering putting a H100i V2 on my Xmas Wishlist!

Mine did... ;)

During my years of being an PC enthusiast, I’ve never had nor encountered any issues with any AIO.

Well after 2 weeks of messing around, 2 failed Amazon orders later. I have cancelled it and paid the extra for the RGB version... hopefully this will arrive today.

Not that I can use it yet without the CPU!

problem is if you ignore and have problems that may not have nothing to do with memory the Manufacturers will cop out by saying " the memory is not on our QVL list " and nothing we can do

Well I ended up returning the faulty rgb trident. And got some team group 3200 cl14. This has ran just fine since installing it.

Just got a H100i v2 for Christmas!! So that’s my next job.
