I have
x99 s MSI Gaming 7 rig - 4.5ghz i7-5930K
16gb Vengeance LPX 2800Mhz
and currently 2x Gtx 980 - EVGA SC

I have also 3 Screens VG278HE - 1 center one is HR ( giving 3D)

I am looking to change my monitor setup to possibly the ROG Swift by ASUS. 3 of them.

I understand this will be a massive undertaking to output full Nvidia surround at 120Hz, but I wish to movce to the next gen of screens

Should I wait and if so What for?

Do I need a 3rd GTX980 for this rig? - motherboard is ready for it in a 8x 8x 8x combo

Do I need G-sync?

I think SLI'd GTX 980's will run great. Tri-SLI will improve performance up to 50% over two cards in SLI but it really depends on the game and it's not as optimised as it could be. Single card and Dual card SLI work best, Tri and Quad, not so much.

I'm sure you'll love the ROG Swifts. Those would be the monitors I'd get.

Thanks for feedback... has anyone out there got a 4k setup 3x rog swift or any setup that could comment on gpu wise..?

To be perfectly honest with you, if you want triple monitor setup, there are far better monitors out there than the Swift. I have the swift and while I think as a single screen its fantastic, I dont think I can justify the price X3 when there are better quality screens to be had.

Also, incase you were not aware, you cannot have G sync across all 3 monitors. It will only be available on your centre screen. You can of course have 120hz across all three.

But in answer to your question. No you don't really need G sync.

Also there are still driver issues for G sync. Enable or not sometimes my pc stops recognising the monitor (simple fix is to unplug the display port and plug it back in) but it is a little annoying to occur. Also it sometimes no longer recognises the monitor as a Gsync enabled screen... same solution applies, but others have reported having to do yet another clean driver install.

All in all, my Swift is a fantastic outstanding TN monitor. Probably the best ive seen, but the viewing angle is bad in my opinion. As a single screen user its not a problem as I sit in front of it, but with 3 angled at your preference, this might be a grievance for you.

I apologise for linking to another forum but I am doing it in the interest of the OP

Perhaps this will help you decide. But long story short, he cancelled his idea. Also it stated G sync only supports up to 2 GPU. Im not sure if thats true or not.

There is no single GPU that can run 3 of those screens at a decent FPS without turning the games right down.

In all honesty if you think spending over £2000 on monitors and then want to cheap out on one card is going to work youre sadly mistaken

I think he was asking if going tri-SLi would be more use than just a dual-SLi config for running the 3 swifts.
