Hi All

Been having issues with my pc since I tried to reboot it last night. I'm hoping you guys would be able to help me figure out whats wrong with my rig please.

I was playing some pubg and watching some twitch. Then l restarted the pc and it didnt come back on. I tried a few times with no luck, so I disconnected the power for a bit and tried to reboot again. Now it turned on but there's no out put to my 2 monitors. Everything seems to be powered on the 1070, ram, kraken all light up and the pc seems on, but I noticed on the 1070 the fans try to spin, they do a small sort of shunt movement on one fan then it does it on the other, no full spin.

So I tried the 1070 in my daughter's pc and it seems to work on there, the fan spin up and it boots into windows on her monitor.

Then I thought I'd try my daughters older r9 280x in my pc to see if I could get anywhere, there's no output to the monitor's or any of the 3 fans spinning on it at all.

I was thinking maybe I should try using a different power supply or look at replacing the motherboard.

My pc specs are

i7 5820K | Gigabyte GA-X99 Ultra Gaming RGB | Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LED, PC4-24000 (3000) | Nzxt Kraken x62 | Evga gtx 1070 sc 8gb | Corsair AX850 | CM Storm Stryker

Thanks for looking.

Stupid question. Have you removed the CMOS battery? also, sometimes if your board gets a power spike it will go weird. You need to remove the 24 pin and press on the power button a few times to drain the caps. Then replace the battery and see if that sorts it.

If not then go to the PSU next.

Cheers guys. Just picking the daughter from work now, so when I get back in I'll try removing the cmos battery. Also I managed to find an unused aero cool 550 watt bronze rated power supply that I got as part of a bundle when I built the kids pc's a few years back, so I can give that a try too if needed.

That should cover it, unless of course the board or CPU is dead (rare and even rarer).

Oddly enough my X99 rig threw a spaz last week too and did some weird stuff. I swear that patch was tainted tbh (and no I am not joking).

well this is exactly what happened to my one month back on GA-990FXA-UD5 fx8350 just finished installing assassins creed origins turned of pc next thing exact same symptoms as op's tried the battery and emptied the capacitors , the power supply -different gpu even took out ram tried different slots and one by one and swapped out cpu's to a 1100t no joy, ended up coughing up for new mobo=system,
hopefully fingers crossed thats not your problem cos was living stressful

AlienALX was right on thr money, thanks very much to you and too everyone that helped.

I was definitely worried about it been a broken part and had dug that power supply out for the back of the cupboard after Davva2004 suggestion thanks.

Really sucks what happend to your rig scubasteve hope its all A OK now (big daddy movie ftw)

Thanks again all

wow excellent Flux now got me thinking if i missed anything on mine lol done all the above but the only thing i didn't not do was remove the 24pin when emptied capacitors do you think that would make a difference i mean i didn't even get no beeps from motherboard when starting it up on all them tests even changed the internal speaker thinking it might of been faulty hmmm

That should always be one of the first tests when having this problem

1. check all cables
2. reset cmos
3. start swapping out hardware
4. etc

It could be worth a try scubasteve, l forgot to remove my 24 pin however, I had to remove the 1070 as my cmos battery was right underneath it and drained it with the power button for like 1 minute. You've got nothing to lose if you've already replaced it all, could be a fun little project if you have the time. It's can be really frustrating when your PC goes down, so if you decide to go for it good luck.

All good motherboards have protection. If you p*ss them off they will just not post. You need to remove the battery and drain out the caps, then try again.

I remember years ago when living with my mother it used to happen to my X58 rig all the time due to sodding power cuts that were quite frequent then. Nothing would work, unless I pulled all power and drained the caps. Then it would spring to life again.

It's very difficult to kill a mobo just tinkering, trust me. Unless you drop something on it and short it out. CPUs are also quite bullet proof too. Personally I have never killed a CPU ever. I did have one years ago with dead cache, but those were the days you could use external cache.
