27" 2560x1440 IPS Monitor - $350 to $400

Thousands? Last time I checked matching inch for inch and pixel for pixel the apple displays are about same price of the dells

That was the last time you checked. When you check now, you get 27" thunderjolt screens pushed on you.

These 30" screens came out in 2004, we got them... 2007 ?, the equiv Dell at the time was half the price. I suggested Samsung tho, which was cheaper again.

For monitoring TV editing for broadcast, the Samsungs are fine.

Well I took the plunge after a lot of hunting through other forums. I ordered a Achieva ShiMian QH270-IPSBS which has no tempered glass, 1 DVI-D and 2x 5watt speakers on ebay for £222 including shipping from Korea. Order was placed on a Wednesday evening and with in a few hours I had gotten confermation, feedback and a tracking number with FedEx. Well the monitor was delivered on Tuesday morning which was pretty damn good i thought as it had been a Bank Holiday weekend. Anyway the monitor had been shipped in just its normal box but showed very little wear and tear and when opened there was a note from the seller to say thanks and that the panel had been checked.

Contents included :-

The monitor and stand

The power brick (110-220 watt) with seperate lead to plug in the wall, the one included was a Korean plug but no big deal there as it uses the same lead as power supplies.

1 DVI-D cable, this needs to be used due to the hi res.

1 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable to connect to the sound card.

So anyway i connected it up and checked for dead pixels and could not find any also could not notice any light bleed or anything else wrong witht the panel so very happy. The picture quality is just amazing to the point that I dont even want to look at my other monitors (2x Acer S243HLBMI) which until now I had thought were pretty good.

This monitor IS identical to the hazro's with only the brand name being different, which made my friend that bought one a few weeks ago a bit mad as he paid £400 for his.

Not to sure about the rulles so I'm not going to post which seller I used (unless I get an OK) but there are a few sellers on ebay of these monitors and from what ive read some are better than others when it comes to shipping and etc so do your homework if you are going to get one.

I am tempted by one of these but am put off by the thought of Import Tax & VAT... These don't appear to be included in the UK price so how do they collect it, at point of delivery or invoiced afterward?

Could add significantly to price, tho still be less than an equivalent Hazro. OTOH, at least you get a UK warranty (and A quality screen?) with the Hazro...

Could anyone enlighten me as to the tax situation? Thanks

PS The one I was looking at is a PCBank model advertised here @ £186: http://oc3d.net/3C

If this contravenes a forum rule, apologies in advance.

FYI guys the Acheiva Shimian screens seem to have a few of cases of dust under the screen and the stands also arent the best from what ive found while looking into these import screens over the past week.

The Yamasaki Catleaps are identical in price/use the same panel yet come with much sturdier/nicer stands and ive not seen any reports of dust under the screen.

No more input about Import Tax issues? Be willing to purchase one if I was sure how much I was likely to be stung by HMRC...
