1st Build - Mobo Decision Help

I am totally out dated at the minute with the motherboard scene but all I can say is my Gigabyte board has been running solid for almost a year now.

Those Abit ones do look nice though!

You only like the ABit one coz its the same colour as your Gigabyte one :P Haha joke.

I like them all but theres that many different ones, i want to check alot of things before buying one.

LOL, you seem to be doing EVERYTHING other than take Hams advise....:nono:

(he really is smart and gave you good advise)

I'm just asking questions, no point posting on here and buying the first one you recommend.

He didnt give me many reasons why to buy the ABit and not any of the others really.

If i don't ask any questions i don't get any answers :p

I like the ABit but i just think some of the others are better and barely much more in price, i'm only really building one and putting good parts on it to last me a long time. I'm not building one, overclocking it to get max potential and playing games 24/7.

So everyone in here thats posted so far thinks i should get the ABit Pro IP35 over the Asus P5K premium and the EVGA 680i SLI? If so then fair enough i'll end it there and that's what i'll stick with. I just wanted to find out a bit more info about differences in these mobo's.

LOL, I just thought it was funny. One board I like is the ASUS P5N E SLI.

But the one Ham recommended is newer technology.

On the abit mobo, It is a great OCr. If you OC or not it tends to mean the mobo is very stable.

I like how the memory slots are, 2 sticks will be separate (instead of close together)

Debug LED is nice

90 degree Satas and IDE is handy for cable management

1333 FSB and can run the new 45nm CPUs

2 E Satas is cool (runs external HDDs at same speed as internals)

External cmos reset is really handy

There are a bunch more...

Think i'll be purchasing this then, i need to get it bought. I keep seeing bargains on ebay and wanting to buy them just coz theyre so cheap compared to what they are brand new.

I'm gonna stick with the one iv been advised now, i'm gonna buy it on Friday or Saturday along with my Coolermaster Stacker 831 case to start me off. (Only £80 on Ebuyer)

This is my list so far, what do you think? Any suggestions for changes or does it sound good so far?

I need a GFX card recommendation, not to buy now but for future reference. Doesnt need to be the best for games but i do want one thts gonna produce good quality when watching films and other general stuff. Budget on that will probabley be about £100.

I dont really know what to look for when it comes to PSU's, just thought that was a decent one to get.

Thanks for the advice, any other things to look for apart from the brand? Wattage??

It's for ME! lol just personal use, watching films, listenin to music (alot), might get COD4 too seen as iv completed it on the 360 and the comp i have at the moment isnt good enough to run it :(

Thanks a lot.

I recently bought an Asus P5K-E/WiFi AP...you should check it out ;)

Great BIOS, great software supplied, loads of features...it's basically the Premium with a lower-binned chipset, no heatpipe link to the Southbridge, and one less LAN port, but you save £20 ;)

Very stable board, highly recommended :)

no prob, the reason I mentioned the dual core over the quad is it matches what you want a little better.

It has the 1333 FSB, is stock 3ghz and can OC easily over 4GHz.

I would have to research quite a bit before doing any OCing so i don't want one that i'm gonna have to OC straight away to get decent speeds out of it.

How many Watts should i be looking for in my PSU? 500-600??

Read the rest of this thread, these guys don't rate the P5K Premium over the IP35 Pro nevermind the P5K-E :p

To be honest, iv spent the last 4-5 days thoroughly reading reviews, forums, sites etc.. on Motherboards so i havent really looked at some of the other things as i'm not gonna be rushing it and i cant afford to do it all in one week anyway so... i don't really know which VC to get yet.

If i watched more movies than played games should i still get an 8series nvidia card? I know that the 512mb are the top range ones.

I need some recommendations lol what do you have? is it good? what you thinking of getting next? anything will help! :D

I'm just giving you a different viewpoint...I know a good two or three happy P5K-E and Premium users, and review sites like it too :)

I know lol iv read them all. They rate the P5K premium alot, i just don't know if their will be much difference between the 2 for my uses.

If i watched more movies than played games would i be better off getting a sh*t hot video card and fairly good graphics card?

I need some recommendations lol what do you have? is it good? what you thinking of getting next? anything will help! :D

Take your time and you will be rewarded with a killer rig!

If gaming is important (latest greatest games) than the 8800GT rules. It is insane how good it is for how little money.

The next card down the list would be the ATI 3850 (excellent value)

The last card I would consider (I use 2 of them) is the 8600GT

If you had any of those choices a "GOOD" 450watt would be fine (Corsair 450 is really nice for a PS)

If you were going to go SLI with the 8800s than a larger PS would be needed.

Some info about the 8600GT is it plays CSS for me at max settings at 140FPS, makes little heat and needs no extra power connection. When I run 2 of them in SLI I get 240FPS.

I doubt i'll be running more than one, if i wasnt too much into gaming would one 8800GT with 512mb be enough? From a quick search it looks like i'd be able to get one of those for about £140ish. Any certain brands to stick to for these too? I see there's quite a lot of different brands selling more or less the same thing but prices arent the same lol.
