Zone alarm alternative

Just at the other halfs computer now and dear god is it slow, the only thing that I can see that would be crippling an old machine even more (athlon xp 1800 here) is zone alarm.

Anyone got some good free alternatives?

Zone alarm shouldn't cripple a xp1800!

But AVG is an awesome firewall! And antivirus!

How much RAM have the mechines got?

it takes a stupid amount of time to boot up and getting problems about virtual memory running out.

The only other thing i can think of is that i stuck a Ti4800 se graphics card in there thats using microsoft drivers so just wondering if that might be causing things to slow.

Just re installing a new version of AVG free now and will see if that works ne better

Get the Geforce4 running on Nvidia Drivers quickly!

Plus maybe up the virtual memory.

Right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Preformance settings > Advanced

Look for virtual memory and up it abit!

Mine is set to 1.5GBs

set it to 4096 minimum, and 4096 maximum, then you never have to bother with it again

Not using nvidia drivers will screw u`r whole desktop experience, even on a c2d system.

Make sure u`r pagefile aint fragged too.

try adding some more ram, will make the world of difference if its using your page file that much.

Ram is 512 mb

page file already set to system managed (hence why im puzzled about that error)

Does neone have a link to nvidia drivers for this card? I took a look at the newest ones and it said that this card wasnt supported :-(

any of you heard of Avast ? they do a home version which is free they send you a license key everyyear through e-mail, it is firewall and antivirus in one never had a problem with it in the past

Amen the best Antivirus/Firewall out there, used it for about 4 Years now not a problem I install it on all systems I build!!!
