Zombie Mods - The Pockit Rockit

Morning update. The dinoc came so I set about sorting the back plate.

Sadly the blade in the plotter is dying so the black part was ruined. Not a problem I can add it at a later date once I order a new blade :)

Afternoon update. So I have received some cash to get things moving along. First up I ordered this.

One of only 4 that exist in the UK ! I then ordered this, this should get it moving along fine.

500w Strider SFX.

Then time for some fans. Now if you look at the case you will see there is a gap in the bottom section. Well, I want some fans on the outside of the case mounted over the fan filters to draw air in and send it upward. So I bought two of these.

Basically 120mm slim fans. Now I needed paint. So I ordered top quality given I will only need one can.

And some Montana Power Green.

I doubt any of you will remember, but Nfenix was painted using the same colour. It's amazing paint with a gorgeous finish.

And a full case paint.

This time I only need it for fans and small parts.

I also ordered this, which I'm hoping doesn't break and can make my life a little easier.

And finally some silver grey fly screen material. I will use this in place of the existing case filters as it's higher flow and will suit the colour scheme.

That should keep me busy for a while. Next up - prepping and painting the Mayhem fan guard.

Thanks dude. I really feel alive when I've got a project on the go.

Thankfully I have some acid etch primer kicking about so next job is make a small paint booth I can use in the kitchen to paint all of the small parts. And man, this project is small.

Quite nice though, because working on a big rig requires so much bloody work. With only one GPU and small parts it's a lot more fun. Not overly pleased with the Mayhem grill. Has a lot of slag on it and will require a good bit of fettling now before I can paint it.

Good thing I like the design or it would have gone back. No point though, we all know how he acts when some one has a criticism of his products.

Thankfully the weather has been nice and sunny of late. That way I can paint the stuff in the warm, give it a going over with the heat gun then stick it out on the window ledge to defume and set lol.

Not easy in a flat with no garden, but when you're 150ft from the beach you don't usually need one :D

Yeah it's celly so it takes a good couple of weeks to fully harden but comes out lovely. Just need to make a note now, paint, put somewhere warm, leave....

Time to sort out the cooler. First up remove the fan mech.

And clear..

Then remove the decal from the top using the heat gun.

Stick down.

Cut out.

Flip.

And fit.

Now for the fan. Sadly the decal on here was paper and even with heat broke up and got all gunky. So I used my TIM cleaner to get the crud off, then back to the old school to get the right sized circle.

And a short while later.

I've also fully sanded (took ages gees, the back side of the grill was awful !) and acid etched the fan grill so I'll up some pics of that later.

Nice progress mate! That backplate looks really nice. Simple and clean :). The sticker on the CPU fan is a nice touch also.

On another note, do you figure that the 500w PSU is enough? Nvidia states minimum PSU power req for Titan X is 600w.

at stock it won't pull more than 250 afaik so that system is covered. Keeping the max power draw at 50% load of the PSU is widely recommended but not necessary.

You know what I didn't even realise they said 600w. But yeah you're correct, just checked it now and it uses 250w and the Pentium uses hardly anything so I'm not worried. I'll only be fitting two laptop drives too so yeah should be bucket loads :)

Morning update. So the braid is all here.

And the fan grill is all in acid etch primer.

Case is out for delivery today :)

Afternoon update.

So yay, the case arrived. I must comment on the quality, it's stunning ! So it was time to get serious. First I removed both sides (one pulls off the other is fixed in place with nine bolts) and had a look at it on the desk.

Right, so I want to remove the bottom. This meant about twenty screws and two rivets.

I drilled out the rivets. Not sure why they used them really given screws would have made it better.

And now I have this out.

Which I am going to fit the two Gelid slim fans to. I will even retain the filters !

I also sourced eight nuts and bolts to hold the fan grill onto the side. They'll need some cutting down but it's nice to actually have what I need for once :)

Morning update. So the PSU is coming later today but the fans are still just saying shipped. No idea when they'll come but it won't be until next week. Until then I can be getting on with a few bits and bobs and next up will probably be cutting the grill in.

For now though let's get the bottom ready to hold two 120mm fans.

Remove all of the screws and mask.

Then use the grill as a handy template !

And drill. Note some of the holes fell into the vent holes but that's OK it's really not an issue.

Update. Took apart the roof fan ready for painting.

/good boy scout...

Very interesting build, dude. Nice mouse pad, btw. I've got the same one :)

Thanks ! yeah I got it last week. Very nice if you're a modder as it offers padding so you don't scratch anything :)

Side panel mod. OK so the first thing you should always do is mask. However, please note, you should mask twice. As you move the jigsaw around it moves in the aluminium shavings. As thus it can scratch the panel so be careful..

Then I marked the holes first for the bolts.

And drilled them and bolted the grill down. This is to make sure it's still perfectly straight.

Now I could draw the cut lines.

And start cutting.

TBH if there is one part of computer modding I hate the very most it's cutting metal with a jigsaw. It's just all over the bloody place.

Remove the masking, no scratches thank the lord.

And assemble. Please remember there is silver/grey mesh going between the grill and the hole, so any rough edges will be fine. I am going to paint them using a cotton bud and some paint in the lid.

Talking of which, look what arrived whilst I was in the middle of cutting out the panel.

Very handy :) Maybe tonight or tomorrow morning I will paint the grill black.

Oh also.. I'm currently in talks with Cooltek who have offered me help with any parts I may need. They're a good bunch of guys !

Thanks. I'm well trained with the bloody things thank god. Cutting metal though always makes me sweat. The blade wants to go 200 miles an hour, then slow, then jam. I really, truly hate it and I'm just glad it's out of the way with no damage.

What I normally do is mark up then drill through the panel I'm cutting and screw it to a sheet of MDF or chip. That way you get some stability as the wood keeps things cool. I had panel flap and everything. I couldn't do it that way sadly because there are posts will balls on them (haha). That's how the case side panel goes on it's a press fit jobby so those standoffs are really intrusive.

Tomorrow I'm going to paint the grill and that's it. Winding down for Easter with mi familia.

Then next week I should be raring to go again :D

The PSU is now here. Lovely little thing weighs a metric ton. I may do a dry run on the desk tomorrow to make sure everything works before I break out the braiding tools. But there's no rush :)

So this morning it was time for a dry run. Basically I want to make sure the PSU is working properly before I braid it.

I used a genuine Windows 7 Professional X86. No point going 64 bit with 4gb ram. I did think about upgrading the ram but tbh? I can't be bothered. It's enough for the gaming I have in mind.

So, all systems go !!

It's now all installed, SP1 and everything else.

Other updates...

I've decided to send the wiring away to Pexon. The PCIE wires are those nasty combined things and I don't think I could make them look nice.

Last night I took the grill off and marked where the case was sticking out under the grill and used my rotary tool with a sanding attachment (grinders just clog on aluminium) and ground the edges back. Next step for that is going to the model shop around the corner tomorrow and buying some black model paint and a small paint brush so I can paint the raw aluminium edges. I know the mesh I have planned quite well and you can see through it quite easily so I don't want any exposed metal on show. I have not painted the grill yet I am waiting until early next week when Easter is done and I'm settled.

Any way, the boring part is done (software) and I will leave you on this note.

Please note - the entire rig is stock. I've not quite worked out how to overclock it yet...

One thing I need to ask. Can a mod change the title to - Zombie Mods - The Pockit Rockit?

Thanks.

Morning update. I'm going away at 5pm until Monday evening so this will probably be the last update until at least then.

Had a late night with my lady last night, figured I could get a lie in after being up for the postman every day this week. Nope ! forgot they worked today and had a rude awakening at 10:30. Threw on the lady's dressing gown and ran for the door, what a sight :D

Any way, the Gelid slim fans have arrived. Sadly it looks like the plug that covers the part where you remove the blades is glued in. I will try my best to remove them but if I can't it means I can't paint the fans green. This will suck, but isn't the end of the world as they will be out of sight when the rig is back together any way.

The silver grey fan mesh has arrived. This means that I have almost all of the parts I need to reassemble the side panel. Still need to paint the grill though..

I think the silver dinoc has arrived too, so the only thing I should be missing now is the green spray paint. I think I might even have some left from Nfenix over at mum's, and I will be going over there later.

I will probably drop in a few pics before I leave today and I'll have my phone so basic forum access will be there, but if I don't get the time to check in let me wish you all a very safe and happy Easter. Eat too much, drink too much if that's your thing and I'll see you all on the other side :)

Edit. Well the Gelid fans don't come apart as I just broke one trying :D

So I've ordered a pair of Yates, which usually come apart easily.
