When i'm loading XP half way through loading it says

Some files on windows xp Pro 2 CD are needed insert CD into drive and click below?

the file box reads D:\i386

Any one no what this means?

I am installing it for the second time, the first time i clicked cancel and it went on to load but after trying to load all the Nforce4 drivers witch took ages with loads of error messages i finally got everything loaded apart from the network drivers witch no mater what i did it would not load.

I have an old benching hard drive with everything on and when i install that everything works fine?

when i have loaded windows ignoring the D:\i386

error the first driver i try to load is the Marvell_7.29 for the DFI Expert motherboard and i get the error message

1607: Unable to install installshield scripting runtime

Anyone???

I've not tried chkdsk yet Phil but will do !

The drive that works is a year old benching install Firelord

Thanks for the advise guys i will try a new hard drive tomorrow.

Sometimes if the overclock is too high - windows will not install.

Check drive cable connections (including mobo conns) also.

There is no overclock at the moment.

Did a scan disk and there were no issues

Tried new windows CD same message

Tried new hard drive same issue

I'm thinking there is something wrong with the M board's network ports?

The only thing i can think of is to ghost my benching hard drive?

Can you change the computer name after windows is installed?

Just tried loading the Nforce 4 drivers and half way through it reloaded and has a message on screen saying

windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt

system32\DRIVERS\nvata.sys

??????

You may find that your CDrom is faulty, had similar problem loading xp, swaped cd's made no difference, kept failing half way through sometimes got the BSD. swaped out the CD drive loaded first time, may be!

I agree it could be the CD drive, if you change disks and HDDs and you still get the issue then the common factor is likely to be the CD drive (and maybe the IDE cable).

Got a new DVD drive today everything went on fine!!!!

What are the chances of 2 DVD drives being stuffed in a row!!!

Thanks for all your help guys.:)

I had a similar thing where i managed to get 3 broken floppy drives in a row, never rule improbable things out!

Glad to hear you've got it sorted.
