XP not detecting keyboard and mouse...

Before I give in and do a reformat, is there anything I can do to get XP to detect a keyboard and mouse again? I recently bought a wireless keyboard and mouse, and the first time I went into XP after plugging them in it installed the drivers fine and worked. The second time I booted, fine. The third time... nothing. I tried my old ps/2 keyboard and mouse, and it doesn't detect them either. Restarted several times and it's just not detecting them, or the ps/2 ones.

The BIOS is fine with the keyboard, and both work fine on the Linux partition (posting from that now :)) but XP just does not seem to recognise them. I'll be reformatting in an hour, so any advice gratefully received :) I want to be able to game again.

Have you tried safe mode?

Pressing F8 after post should prompt for safe mode option.

If not would be worthwhile to see if you can uninstall/reinstall the drivers.

Well, I couldn't get it working in safe mode, so I bunged the Windows XP disc in, selected the wrong option (instead of format partition I selected not to), and that seemed to repair it, as in 5 minutes it asked me to reboot to continue setup, and it booted into Windows with my usb keyboard and mouse working fine :D

Boot into safe mode again. This time uninstall the drivers for the keyboard and mouse from within the device manager. Upon rebooting XP should detect your mouse and keyboard properly and reinstall the proper drivers.

This is actually the way that would`ve fixed it, I`ve seen this b4.

But Softix dood, the problem was sorted and this and old-ish thread >.<
