XFX R9 280x with corsair CXM 500 watt power supply?

There should have a vid TTL did about how much you actually need, however in your case that you will be fine with that PSU, as it is a decent one.

The recommended PSU wattage is just to help them cover their backsides, as they dont know what PSU you will use nor the components in your PC.

depends on other bits as well, but unless you're running something like xeons/opterons/FX 9xxx cpus 750w is overkill. That said, you might want to get another psu if you have the spare cash as the cx series aren't fantastic...

Deffo need more information tbh - the amount of time it would have taken to type it out would have been less than me having to waste my time typing this tbh

Assuming you have a 'normal' mainstream i3/i5/i7 system with a couple of HDDs and a few fans then it will be fine. There are a lot of variables so information would help :D

M&P

Well the rest of the system an i5, Asus matx board, 8gb corsair vengeance ram, Samsung 840 evo ssd and a WD 1tb mech. The 280x will be replacing my gtx 660 (EVGA) so I can run a 2k monitor. The only other thing that uses power would be my corsair H55 cooler.

I have a Corsair AX750, and I run a pair of AMD 7950's, 2 water pumps, 4 HDDs, tons of LEDs, etc. Most I've ever been able to draw from the wall was about 575W. You'll be fine with 500W for sure. :)
