X1800XT - PE Specs - Impressive?

The Inq shows that the X180XTPE unit will have 650Mhz core clock and 1.55Ghz memory.

The looks is 'unique' (IMHO best described using Arnie's quote from Predator 'your one ugly ..........) and it comes with it's own external power supply - which is good news if you are not ready tp upgrade yours yet.

The specs are an indication of the heat this baby pumps out possibly showing the limits of air cooling the beast.

The inq says:

One thing we can't figure out. Most of the boards the partners received clocked GPU chip above 700MHz with zero problems. Memory went to 1.7GHz with no problems, and ATI even posted that 1GHz GPU clock spin release - by crazy Finnish duo Sampsa/Ville, using LN2 cooling - showing there is plenty more headroom left both on the board and on the marchitecture itself. How come no one came up with a 700MHz GPU clock? Graphzilla's partners pushed one slot cooling all the way to 490 MHz and now 580 MHz, all having an 110nm chip at their hands. ATI uses a 90 nanometre CPU capable of getting to 1GHz. What's going on?

I have to agree, it's confusing at best.

Yeah i saw this posted a few days ago and i have to admit i cant realy understand why they are clocking them so low, unless they have something else in the pipeline..

Nice card, esp cause its an asus :) Also i suppose they clock them less so that overclockers feel like they are getting more for there money?

Looks like a prototype to me? :?

Why would they release one with that black cooler? Just make it transparent and stick a couple of blue LED's under it, and people will be like 'WOW, isn't she pretty' :D

oooh can anyone say bad yields? i have to agree, im somewhat confused why companies dont seem to be able to get their hardware to as greater levels as enthusiasts - take intels 'inability' to release a 4ghz stock speed chip...when iv seen plenty of folks with 650/660's hit 4ghz stock cooler and stock volts? what is wrong with these design people?

You would think they would have a mass test jig, to pass the processors at 4GHz (and charge a premium), the ones which don't could be labeled as lesser ones - although I thought they did this with the Skt478 EE?
