Right then boys and gals it seems a long long time since I have had to write a build log, almost difficult to remember what to do!

HayleyWOW came to me a little while back about building her a main rig which you will all be seeing very soon, but while her case is at the bodyshop I bring you what is actually the second rig I will be building her - WOW-Storage.

Basically Hayley wanted a storage server similar to mine but also something that was pleasing to the eye rather than something thats just plain and boring.

So heres the spec list:

Fractal R3 Arctic white

Asus P7H57D-V Evo

Intel i3 530

Gskill Eco 1600mhz 4GB

5x 2TB WD Green's

64GB Kingston V+ SSD

Big thanks also go out too:

NZXT for the HALE90 650w PSU

Noctua for the NH-C12P SE14 and the 4x NF-P12 case fans

what OS is going on it?

not sure a SSD is ideal for a storage server? the number of reads/writes involved (if it's going to be the boot drive) also raid5 the storage but not the OS?

Did you set TLER on those WD greens? The WD greens had issues when being used in RAID. I had to set TLER on my 1TB greens otherwise they kept breaking RAID1.

The hardware spec is quite interesting tho

would make a nice esx server or iscsi target

You should definitely get raid card! 5 hdd @ raid 5, not so good performace on Integrated "raid" controller

Its all about the money dude, a decent raid card would be £400+ and the performance will be more than enough onboard for Hayley. At the end of the day anything over the speed of a gigabut connection (130MB/s) will be wasted so a raid card would simply be for the spec sheet rather than anything Hayley actually needs.

Was nice OS to work with when I had my own home server (which sucked btw lol). If you know any Linux or UNIX based OS go for it though!

Right time for a little update, hard drives are in along with the PSU and new Noctua fans. The Motherboard is all built up ready to drop in aswell.

Ive let Hayley have the very first of the new OC3D Fan/Case badges, be more info on this for everyone else pretty soon if you all behave

The PSU really does look the nads in a white case.... And with the HALE90 performance it was a no brainer tbh.

I reviewed the cooler ages ago, its also the one I use in my own server dude

I am quite impressed with the case though (white one anyways)

They're stunning mate. Sooo understated yet gorgeous at the same time. The black pearl colour is my fave..

I was so close to hitting add to cart it was unreal. Then I had to pinch myself and come back to earth but I would love one for my media box.

I read the review of the NHC12P here. That was what made me order one so you can add another feather to your cap
