Would 8 x supersampling 1440p cause gpu issues ;)

I was messing about with my advanced warfare settings and accidentally set super sampling to 8x on my asus swift 2560 x 1440p monitor.

I know its one of those DOH!! moments and I was technically getting my sli 970's to render the game at 20480 x 11520!!!

Whilst playing after about 3 mins I was getting a black screen and then no display output and a system restart. Would this be caused by the 8x super sampling and would this damage the cards in any way.

I think it would be caused by the 8x super sampling, and would this damage the cards in any way?... well, I'm no expert, but rendering a game at 20 480 x 11 520, that is massive and would probably give a Titan a workout lol.

Lol I'm impressed they lasted the 3 to 5 mins they did when I realised.

Just worried that I might have damaged them

Unfortunately, that's as far as my knowledge goes... I'll leave that one for someone else, with more knowledge and experience than me, to answer :)

You won't have damaged your cards in anyway at all no clue how you got that idea.

But 8x SSAA is not needed at all at 1440P, Hell no AA is needed at 1440P realistically ^_^

There you go, you've got Dice's answer... a Pro's answer ;)

But hey Dice, isn't 20480 x 11520 like 5 times 4K though? :p

Something to that degree yes but the worst thing that's going to happen is the game stops working due to the cards severely lacking in power i.e a slideshow ^_^

Yeah it was very choppy, I have no idea how I managed to set supersampling, I just wasn't paying attention and probably thought it was AF OR AA instead dunno just a schoolboy error.

Cheers Dice I was just a bit concerned due to the way my cards reacted, completely losing signal and the system rebooting. It's only when I launched the game again I found the mistake.

Cheers bud

You're welcome, Think of it this way.

Your cards are Marsellus Wallace from Pulp fiction and upping the res unleashed a wild buttluvin inbred hick ergo your cards could not take that much hick so they shut off.
