Tripple 1440p Surround GPU Requirements

So I want to upgrade my set-up to support Nvidia Surround on 3 ROG Swift 1440p monitors. The purpose of this is to run games such as Elite Dangerous and Project Cars in surround, im not fussed about running FPS and the like across a surround setup.

Its worth noting that the ROG Swifts only has a display port so with my current 970's I would have to put in a 3rd card just to get the port.

What im trying to figure out is the GPU requirements to run this kind of resolution without having to sacrifice too many quality settings.

It looks like it has to be 980 SLI or possibly Titan X?!? My concern is VRAM usage at the resolution im trying to push. I keep seeing info about 8GB 980's but that seems to have gone quiet recently.

Info on running 1440p surround seems sparse and i don't want to make a £1000+ mistake.

I will just give the relevant system spec below, any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Current System:
2x EVGA 970 FTW
16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 @2800
Rampage 5 Extreme X99
i7 5930k
1x ROG Swift

Thanks in advance!

Not that much of an reply, but one Swift is expensive as hell and you're planning on going triple... You are even more crazy than I am... but still awesome dude! :D

See if you're going triple 1440p from what ive seen and read, id personally say Titan X is a good buy, but if you want all the eye candy then SLI Titan X.

I think with that resolution you'll hit the VRAM limitation of a 980 real quick! Is there a reason why you haven't considered a AMD solution?

The 295 x2 is a phenomenal card when it comes to uber high res

I'm not sure that G sync works with three monitors. If budget is limitless then go for two titan X, if its more limited AMD's 8GB 290x in crossfire / a 295x2 will do.

According to Nvidia G-Sync will work:

The problem is once you have 1 Swift, you cant go back!

G-Sync is the main reason, it just looks so damn good.

It does sound right that Titan X SLI is the right way to achieve the goal, a £3k upgrade (including the monitors) is a lot just to keep G-Sync, tough call

I would go for 3x U2515's and 2 or 3 8GB 290X's, epic idea though, it will be awesome but freaking expensive to go the nVidia route, 4GB won't cut it for a resolution higher than 4k!

Thanks for this link it really helped, seeing the 3 monitors like that has made it an instant purchase!

To me, it looks silly and takes up too much space. Id prefer 3x 24inch or around that resolution. Ideally you need to remove the stands, but are there triple monitor stands that can accept 3x 27inch screens?

Glad ya like the swift already id of cone for the curved 29" LG 21:9 display for that proper wrap around.
you will need a card with more than 4Gb of vram as im sure its going to suffer and you will have to drop some quality.

would love to see ya triple set up though :)

gonna go with SLI Titan X and triple swifts for sure. Will post the results next week when the cards actually out in the UK

Is that correct?, thinking/considering maybe going for one actually :p... after seeing it in the store, in person ^_^

There are, which was also posted in another thread regarding something about stands, not sure which one though. From my previous reserach etc, there aren't many out there that support 3 x 27" and I'm not sure about their quality either.

I'd hold off with the titan x sli.. rumor has the 980ti/990 will be a titan x but with 6GB of vram. Might save about half a titan x in cost.. worth the wait imo
