Worth upgrading?

Thats what i thought. And maybe in 2 years when i am older and have a job i will be able to afford a pwnage C2D system. If i do the get the CPU and RAM i wont have nay issue with windows will i? i will be able to install them and it will work just like before just faster?
But you can afford it now so why waste your money on something slower when you can afford faster? Dosent make any sense to me, but w/e floats your boat.

Less hassle tbh. Sometimes I wish I was back on 939 with my DAMN PWNAGE DFI SLI-D...miss that fecker tbh

Ha, I still have a pwnage Dfi. Just sold it to a mate because I now own a pwnage Abit QuadGt.

Back on topic though, I stand by my opinion and I'm totally in the same boat as PP (do you mind being called that?:p) I just don't understand why you'd go for something slower when it costs the same as something that's quite a bit faster. Less short term hassle doesn't add up when you take longer term hassle into account. It really is up to you though.

I'd say there was enough difference to warrant the $10 difference. The e4300 has slightly better performance than the X2 4200 which is practically the same as an opty 175. The main things I'd be looking at are 1. if you need it the chip overclocks ridiculously well (and you might as well OC it, you get lots of extra performance for free) and 2. upgradeability, the opty is the end of the line. I understand that you want less hassle but even taking into account transfering all your files to an external drive and re-installing windoze you're looking at maybe 4 hours? And then in future you'll have quad cores and possibly even penryns to call on for upgrades. Drop in the processor and away you go. With the opty you're looking at an hour or so changing everything over and then a full upgrade later.

It's your money though mate and all we can do is advise you.

Thanks for your help but i think that Kempez has told me what i wanted to hear. Upgrade to the opty and 2x1GB. Opty 175 or X2 4200?

If you just wanted reassurance that you were doing the right thing you should have asked.

Just don't come crying to me when my c2d pwns your ass!:awhip:

The thing is i really dont care about how good my comp is. What i have now is just fine but i want that boost in performance, going from single to dual-core and from 1 to 2Gb's.

That's fair enough mate, I was just doing my duty in giving my opinion on the most efficient (and in my eyes best) way to spend your cash. Let us know how the upgrade goes though.

I will and i thank you for your opinion. I know what you are saying about the money but i would rather have very good performance and less hassle then extremely good performance and hassle. Plus for what i use my comp for the opty will do me just fine. Should i get an Opty 175 or a X2 4200?

Which ever has the 2x1mb cache. At least get the bang for your buck.

I agree though, i dont have an AM2 or C2D system for the same reason. My x2 4800+ is completely fine for anything i do. And to tell you the truth it hasent been in my system for a while and ive been using a 3000+ OC3D to 2.53ghz. Still run every single one of my games maxed out at high res. So really, there really isnt any difference. @ Kemp, my SLI-DR rig has been the best machine ive ever had so i hear ya.
